Hello, I am experiencing trouble playing games on Ubuntu 16.04, and several official derivatives, including Xubuntu and Kubuntu.

When I click on the desktop icon to play a game, nothing happens.
Trying to run thees games true the command line gives me this error (sometimes the numbers change):

./start.sh: 6: ./start.sh: Bad substitution
./start.sh: 8: ./start.sh: source: not found
./start.sh: 11: ./start.sh: get_gameinfo: not found
./start.sh: 12: ./start.sh: get_gameinfo: not found
./start.sh: 13: ./start.sh: get_gameinfo: not found
./start.sh: 32: ./start.sh: define_option: not found
./start.sh: 35: ./start.sh: standard_options: not found

The strange thing is, not all games do this. Terraria, Card City Nights, Freedom Planet, and all dos box games I have tried work fine. every other game gives me the aforementioned error.

If it helps, Hear are my computers specks:

OS: Xubuntu 16.04
CPU: I7-4790K @4.4GHz
GPU: R9 Fury @1000MHz
RAM: 16GB @1866MHz
Monitor: 1080p @144Hz

Thank you for your time.

Edit:
The games that I have tried that don't work are:
Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition
Brutal Legend
Guacamelee Gold Edition
Hotline Miami
Lovely Planet
Mount and Blade Warband
Shadowrun Returns
Trine Enchanted Edition

I did a fresh install for all 3 OSes (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu)

Did you move any files around after running the installer?

It would be very helpful if you specifically named the games that *don't* work for you.

You could also try contact support directly.

Fresh install of Ubuntu and fresh install or games or did you do a "in-place upgrade" of ubuntu?

I'm willing to bet if you did an in-place that killed the games.
