No Man's Sky a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available to pre-order now — DRM-free on GOG.com

Intergalactic travel changes the notion of time. Unimaginable speeds connect impossibly distant worlds, dilating lifetimes, blending generations. A round-trip may find your world aged and unrecognizable, separated from your loved ones, irrevocably alien. In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid and with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as our lifetimes are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — populated with explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.
The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means stand your ground in fight.
Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

The pre-order incentive for No Man's Sky includes the Horizon Omega ship — faster engines, better guns, all to kickstart your trip and help you survive longer on the interstellar journey.

trusteft: I was certain it was not going to be DRM-free so I was certain I wasn't going to play it, even though I want to.
I don't know if I will pre order it yet, but I can guarantee you I am going to buy it from GOG.
Thank you for bringing it here.

Question, any idea if there is going to be an offline version/option?
Yup, the DRM-free release is going to feature the full set of online features and all, but you'll also be able to play it offline. :)

Barry_Woodward: Have we had a release with a regional roll-out like that before?
Nope, this is a first. I'm pretty sure this is meant to coincide with brick-and-mortar release dates.

IwubCheeze: The pre-order bonus is pretty retarded. "If you pre-order now, the can use this ship which will make the game easier". How is that an incentive exactly?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Different strokes I guess. I won't be using the ship, but I'd say this is a way better incentive than pre-order exclusive missions or something.

MxMedix: Amazing to see this here.... thank you hellogames and gog...

For those that want to know more...

All your questions will be answered.... Mostly.

Also... There's not really multiplayer in the traditional sense. It's more like a interactive wiki database and you'll likely never see another player in the wild.

following this game for years and never dreamed gog would get this on release.

PLEASE..don't let steam get updates before gog does. Keep the updates on parity.
There also seems to be more fresh news about the game coming out literally right now.
I'll go out on a limb and say there must have been some major press event around the game recently because most coverage has new things and details.
Here is one pretty nice piece:

stysio: What's 30 days money-back guarantee good for if the game is released in over 100 days? It's the same practice that we see all over the place; place your money in our pocket, get used to getting by without your money, never think about asking for a refund.

Kingpuddycat: That's actually a very good point. You have no chance to play the game, or even know if it works properly until well after the 30 day mark.

Unless it's 30 days after its release perhaps?

My rule of thumb, don't pre-order anything and wait a few months after the reviews are out to get an idea of what your looking at.
The Money-Back Guarantee is indeed valid for 30 days after release. Like you say, it doesn't really apply before that — you can cancel your pre-order at any point before release for whatever reason.
