Well, only for the same reasons that they're concerned with selling digital products and making money, plus the general idea that if you're doing something at all, you should be doing it well.

shmerl: In contrast, video is offered for download and streaming as convenience. So why can't music be? That's what Bandcamp is doing.
Wait a minute, who's doing that? Can you stream movies on GOG? I'm not even aware of any paid video services that give you the option to stream or download.

Yes, you can stream it from GOG after buying. Check out any film, there are few free ones like these if you never bought any: https://www.gog.com/movies?price=free&sort=bestselling&page=1

I guess if GOG will be flooded with bandwidth issues, streaming will be more of a problem, on the other hand Youtube is massive, and still survives.

UPDATE:
Actually correction - looks like you can't do it anymore. Hm. GOG surely offered that in the past. I didn't check their films often since they abandoned the effort. I guess they removed streaming option.

UPDATE2: I found this:
https://www.gog.com/forum/movies/official_response_from_gog_whether_the_streaming_feature_is_being_done_away_with

UPDATE3: I suspect GOG simply weren't ready to invest enough effort into video. It's really not trivial (from backend, to CDN and etc.). And since they deprioritized the whole thing, they axed streaming. Kind of sad. I was still hoping for some DRM-free breakthrough in video with the push from GOG.

Zoidberg: As regionally priced as ever. :/

And seriously, "free update". Adding languages and bug fixes should be paid now, you imply? :/

omega64: No, but adding paid dlc would also be an update. :P
Not discussing the update part. XP

They added two new soundtracks into the game meaning two people worked on new music, and they added these music tracks into the game for free. Presumably because the dev paid for it from their own pocket.

So I think it's worth adding the 'free' part to the 'update' part :D

Edit: And, yea, the news post doesn't really explain this. The tracks are added into the game for free, but you can buy them separately if you want to support the musicians too and get the songs as separate mp3s/flacs.

Yeah, just learned about the added console port soundtracks in a video on a french site. That's more than just some patches. It still would have been unfair to not include it and make it "exclusive" to consoles though.

Agree on that.

Niggles: Cant believe your being a dick about this. Everyone knows its up to the composer and not necessarily the dev/publisher. be lucky when we get any free soundtracks these days.
avatar
Crosmando: Not necessarily. The developer could simply write a clause into the contract with the composer saying "You must allow us to bundle the soundtrack with the game and not sell it for extra separately".
Basically - "give us all you rights". Good luck finding those composers....
Oh what a lovely day!! :-D

They're the ones doing the paying, so I'm sure it's possible.
