Narakir: Wow that was complicated... I got Mage's Slayer's cousin : Take no Prisoners working that way - Use virtual machine for win98 to install it properly, then simply loaded the game using win7 and it worked like a charm.

IronArcturus: I still wish we could see and [url=https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/take_no_prisoners]Take No Prisoners on GOG. They were such unique games!
Alas it seems like they are stuck in legal limbo stuck between Atari, Activision and the defunct Red Orb entertainment.

That's a shame. I've only played a demo of Take No Prisoners back then, but it was a lot of fun. Maybe someday they'll both make it to GOG. :P

You weren't able to just copy the contents of the CD? I didn't need a VM for MageSlayer, but I don't have Take No Prisoners. I've thought about grabbing the CD off of eBay sometime.

I tried installing it in Win7, the installer refused to work so I used the virtual box with win98 to install the game, then I kept the CD image mounted in demon tools and started the game in Win7 with the software renderer. Copy pasting files didn't worked at all. I'll try this the same method with mageslayer when I get the occasion.

OK. Just wondering. I didn't use the installer for MageSlayer and copy/pasting the game files worked for me.

Terrapin2190: I can't seem to find the hex offset 352F8 that you're talking about...

EDIT: Turns out with mine, the offset was 352F0 in case anyone else reads this and has an issue there.

adambiser: Did you patch the game first?
I did actually. There weren't any errors, but I'm thinking the patch may have missed something somewhere? The change at 352F0 did work though. And I have the real music in the game! So psyched! XD

I remember installing this in Win7 before. Not sure how I did it. I think I may have just copied the MAGESLAY folder to a random directory and got it working... somehow? Never have heard the CD music play though, I had always used MIDI tunes.

Or at least not that I can remember. I bought this game so long ago!

The VMware seems like a good alternate route. The directions described in the initial post are a bit complicated, but works quite well. I'm very happy with the outcome of it.

I did however use a different program to extract and convert the audio tracks from the CD.

I used CDex Portable to extract and convert the audio.
