mk47at: I don't think so. Any reasonable helpful and intelligent person working at support should offer that solution if he/she/it is asked about an inofficial upgrade. Responses like the one that yogsloth got cost a company a lot of money.
HunchBluntley: You'll notice that yogsloth didn't actually post his query, only watvin's (the Support person's) reply. There was very likely another miscommunication between yog and watvin. Also, it's hardly unheard of that GOG Support staff are occasionally unaware of one policy or another; watvin might genuinely not have known that chandra's workaround was a thing that they can do. :)
(P.S.P.S.A. - Usernames without an initial capital letter make baby Jesus cry.)
Watvin is a new member of our team and probably just didn't phrase the reply right. Really sorry about any confusion caused by this. Even though I agree that Support should always provide the best solutions and give as detailed info as possible (and believe me, we try!), in the end we are only human and sometimes make mistakes.
