It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'm mostly using Chrome as my browser, after having given up on Firefox (which even after a complete re-install) somehow manages to freeze my windows after a few minutes of browsing.

Anyway, I get a notification that I have a reply in the general forum, and I go to the thread with the supposed reply, except there's nothing there. So I copy the page's url at the top, post it in internet explorer and then 'Bingo!' there's the reply. Even after numerous refreshes in Chrome I still can't see the reply. I even tried to disable the cache using Developer's Tools, but still nothing.

What gives?

edit : it's happened several times in the past, and I think each time when the reply is at the top of a new page.

Do you know, what makes Firefox so problematic? I get similar problems, browser starts slowing my laptop and it is getting harder to browse.

According to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/964151 it might be the graphics hardware acceleration. I haven't tried disabling it yet, so perhaps that's worth a shot.
I always ctrl+F and found my name in the reply context... does gog automatically find the reply? (chrome users here)

Based on your edit, I assume that you simply stumble upon the old and known "first post on new page" bug. More often than not, the first post on a new page does not show until a second post is made, and it has nth to do with the browser in use.

A workaround is to temporarily change your posts/page setting.

Now that you mention it, the the reply I could see in IE but not in Chrome wasn't at the top of the page in IE, but it was in Chrome. So it's a well-known bug you say?
It's happened to me a few times, yeah, and it's especially annoying if you're the one who made that post.

Using Opera and I actually thought I was seeing things.Went to look at reply and nothing found, this could be a new or old bug.

Yes, it is. IIRC, it was first mentioned in the "What did just break" thread about a year ago.
It doesn't always happen, so no idea why it does when it does.

Yeah, it happens all the time. I'm not sure if it happens with EVERY new page or just sometimes, but it is certainly very common.

If you click on a post that says it has new replies (or a reply to you) but you can't see any new posts that's usually the reason why.
