JCD-Bionicman: Heard it was shorter. As far as the dumb little gripes to do with having tank destruction instead of septic assault or whatever I could give a shit less.
So it's supposedly shorter, more expensive than the now marked down Saints Row 2, and they took away some player choice or something. That's all I really care about, I could care less about the "shift in tone" that critics sometimes complain about, because while the 3rd may be more over the top, it's always been a batshit crazy game from what I can tell.
So the question is, what do you guys think of SR3? Should I start with 2 or 3?
I've played an hour of Saints Row 2...loved it but wouldn't work well on the PC I had at the time and 3 to 5 hours in Saints Row 3 and love it just as much.
SR is a COMEDY - Making fun of Mafia sandbox games.
There's a large amount of content if you add all of the DLC. Even though the game is normally expensive Summer, Christmas and New Years sales on both Steam and Amazon have offered the complete SR3 collection for fiftteen or less (that's how I got it) so wait a month for Steam's Summer Sale.
Game is well worth it, IMO. My favorite gang sandbox game because it doesn't take itself seriously and therefor not half as depressing as the GTA series.
timppu: Maybe I'm lucky, but I don't seem to have any real issues with SR2 PC (I've played it a few hours so far). My CPU is Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30GHz, playing at 1920x1080 with almost everything at max.
I did see in e.g. Youtube some people having severe framerate issues while driving, but I haven't seen that either. Maybe I'll still give the unofficial patches a try, just to see if they matter to me.
EDIT: Ok if it may affect some timed missions, that is certainly bad.
EDIT2: Reading the Steam forum discussion, maybe this is the reason I don't see the speed issues then:
How can I fix Saints Row 2 running too fast at 1.5x speed?
IMPORTANT! Many players have reported that the speedup bug is now fixed with Windows 8, and Minimaul confirmed it as well on his test box! DO NOT USE POWERTOOLS OR CHEAT ENGINE IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 8!
The speedup bug is something that is an inherent problem with Windows 7, though in rare cases it has been reported to happen on Vista. The speedup happens with CPUs that do not run at exactly 3.2Ghz frequency (the Xbox 360 cpu speed.) The further your cpu is away from 3.2Ghz (both higher and lower) the faster it will run.
timppu: Well, as a matter of fact, I am indeedy playing it in Windows 8. Interesting, it works better on Win8...? Maybe I'll try it on Windows 7 too, just to see what people are complaining about.
I sorta had SR 2 running on my ten year old PC hosting windows XP
I think the problem people were experiencing was, as a port, it wasn't optimized well and their equipment had not been updated to the point of handling it yet. They were also trying to play it while Win 7 was working out bugs and people were learning about the 'Run as Admin' and 'Compatbility' options.
I'm pretty sure THQ had XP in mind which Is why I was able to run it better on worse and older equipment. (I still had to uninstall though because, let's face it, I was running a 2.4 ghz SSE1 single core AMD and only 1 gig RAM.
