This has gone far enough. You're like children testing how far you can push your parents before they tell you off. I'm afraid I'm going to have to contact GOG with a formal complaint of inappropriate content.
stupid dumb post that isn't funny

Tormentfan: I still wouldn't say that heated religious 'debate' is any more prevalent than everyday bitching, in fact, tbh, I see it as a very small part of the overall immaturity (of which I can certainly be guilty of) that contaminates forum in general.

It's as if all the etiquette and social manners, we as a species, evolved over thousands of years, were all suddenly dropped down the toilet since the advent of the internet... and it's just going to get worse, unfettered humanity never improves on it's own.. it has to be guided, sometimes forcefully, and there's no one left to do that.
1. Sometimes people need a place to vent and act "immature" from time to time. I agree there are places for that online, but disagree that it's always(or nearly so) a bad thing when done online or off. It can be very healthy and/or fun sometimes, if done right and in the proper places.

2. The entirety of manners and etiquette has vanished since the internet was invented? Maybe it contributed to the lessening of such in some people at some point in their lives, for good or bad reasons & in good or bad ways, but I don't think it obliterated such from the face of the planet for everyone everywhere.

3. I also don't think the net(as a whole) should be regulated(dunno if that's what you were getting at there, that we should do that or that the net needed such to remove the immaturity)....we have enough regulated(self regulated) areas of the net to safe haven in already for people of all creeds/sexes/faiths/personalities/etc, imo.

iainmet: I think as the forum continues to grow and GoG gets bigger they may need to start looking at a few moderators to keep an eye on the forum.

Dump / delete threads like the one yesterday that was saying Pirate all 3 Mass Effect Games for example, remove inflamatory remarks from threads to stop bickering etc.
I, for one, think that would be a bad idea. What would keep a moderator from becoming "Power hungry" and deleting things that they disliked or interpreting the forum code in their own misguided way?

Also imo deleting threads(instead of locking) even bad ones is censorship, plain and simple. Yes, GOG(and forums) isn't(aren't) a democracy, but censorship shouldn't be the answer in any but the most dire circumstances, and often can be done for bad reasons and used to bad effect once it is used for good reasons and to good effect online.

Is that a literal pushing of my parents or a figurative one? Because if it's the latter I'm not really bothered.

Just out of curiosity, do you feel the need to "take action" in this situation out of a desire to help the entire community, or just to help yourself? Like in other words, by contacting gog to complain about inappropriate content, do you view yourself as acting on behalf of yourself ONLY, or as acting on behalf of the community as a whole?

This isn't a loaded question. I mean this question in a friendly and polite way.

What has gone far enough? (Also is your post serious or not, I can't tell right now.)

I agree the title is a bit crude and crass but the OP and everyone in here hasn't been too offensive, plus they've kept it isolated in here. (Which I am thankful for)

Also contact GOG? For what? A bit of nasty language(which people do on this board all the time without being reported, oddly enough)? Or the people being rude to each other? Is it really that bad a thread to necessitate that level of action? :\

Also why enter the thread at all and reply after reading the title? It's like people who watch a show then call in or write to complain after seeing something they don't like, then watching it again and complaining again.....etc.

I genuinely feel both saddened and annoyed by the thread. It saddens me to see this forum descend to such a crude and uninventive level. It saddens me that the people posting the message are, as I said, simply testing the bounds of what they can do, and I know that if I don't act they will just push further (that's what kids do). It annoys me that the thread has continued so long, and that it is just there to upset people.

So I feel I should act, not on behalf of the community (as it was the community that started the thread), but for the community. From that perspective it is quite selfish, I am acting to stop things getting worse.

Incidentally, acting simply involved sending a message to GOG, to make sure they couldn't deny knowledge of this thread. They already know it's here.

michaelleung: Gee, why are there so many downrated forum threads now? It's not like people are being assholes on the forum or anything.
I love freedom of the speech. Thank you GOG for this in addition to all the other goodness offered here.

I don't know who pissed on your bowl of Wheaties this morning but do yourself a favor, toss it and pour a new one. Life is too short and precious to get worked up over trivia. :-)

By the way, that also goes for anyone who'd let a silly thread like this on a forum bother them.

Cereal is fucking stupid. Who thought it was a good idea to put lots of sugar into bits of grain, then fill it with milk and call it a healthy start to the day? I'd rather just eat sugar cubes.
I agree with the last 2 posts in this thread by GameRanger. Deleting threads instead of locking is fucked up censorship, and yes I am not using the dictionary definition of the word "censorship" in this sentence. I know gog is not a government and I know this is a private website and that they can do what they want. They still shouldn't delete a thread, in my opinion, unless the thread contains child porn or pictures (etc) of other similar illegal activity. Absent those exceptions, which rarely if ever happen anyway, threads should be locked not disappeared. This paragraph is not in reply to anyone or anything in particular!

Okay, thank you for the honest reply. It was very insightful. (again, I don't mean this in any kind of a negative way)

Agreed on freedom of speech, not getting worked up over this thread or whatever caused this thread, etc. Good post. +1

That works! Have a bowl of sugar cubes! It should do wonders for your disposition!
