This is definitely peaking my interest, money is tight, and I need to pay my CC off soon, but after that I may likely drop the cash to get a copy. I am curious if the package comes as separate installs/bonus' or an ISO in which to make your own disc. Either way it doesn't matter, but I figured I'd ask. ^_^

hulksjedi: Thanks for the support guys! it has been a hell of a ride so far ;-) the that fact some players haven't even finished 40% of the game and are asking for the second part already made our day!!! ;-)
Bought, want moar. Can't have too many multimedia text adventures. (I've been writing mine this summer, but it's a looooooong way to completion.)
The game looks very interesting and I wish to see it in GOG.

However it suffers from some engrish at times.
It needs to be proofread and have a patch released.

BTW, why don't you release a demo?

just bought it, deluxe version.

i love it,

what sold me on it was firstly, the very bladerunner esque vibe and influence, as thats my favourite film, and secondly the absolute labour of love that went into it and all the great little extras and bits and pieces that make it a little treasure trove of goodies etc. great.

ive been gaming since atleast 92-93 (im 34 years old for reference) and have always seemed to gravitate to flight sims, FPS, low level RPG and such. of late ive really started to develop a taste for games id not reallt played before, such as HOMM an all similar, the turned based stuff, geand strategy, 4X games and now, text adventures!

i hope this genesis continues, as ive had the most fun on my new "taste" of games. ( although i still play my older tastes too, just not so much.

anyway, it seems to me to be a great way of reinventing the genre and i personally am very happy. a proof read wouldnt go amiss, as said previously, but its no great shakes.

RPS has a write-up:

I like the idea of the game but the price is a bit too high for me. A demo might change my mind.

How long is the game?
This actually looks pretty awesome. Some people (notably those on the RPS story) have disparaged it from the gameplay, and that is disappointing, but given what it is, it's not wholly unexpected.

I'm really tempted to go all out for the Deluxe Edition, but the last few GOG promos and sales have really drained my entertainment budget. I'll probably wait until the end of the month or go for the Collector's Edition - hopefully by then some of the grammar and English problems will have been fixed.

Come to think of it though, given the game's setting, I wonder if the game's use of "Engrish" is likely intentional.

i like where youre going with this, but sadly, theyre mainly grammatical errors etc.

there are quite a few negative posters on that RPS article sadly.

Nah, there is a difference between using phonetic speech and just having rough grammar and spelling outside of speaking elements.

The most frustrating part is that they really could have take advantage of the community situation with developer builds like the developer of Xenonaughts. I guarantee that members of the community would have helped fix the grammar before release.

Another issue is that not enough people are talking about it because not enough people own it. It seems the price is a little to steep for people to just take the plunge. Here is a reddit post that happened the other days before that RPS article was posted:

Analogue: A Hate Story is $10 and has received a lot more attention. You absolutely need to give out some copies to people who pledge to review.
Suggestions :

Youtube reviewers like LGR and Classicgameroom
Some reddit and Gog.com users
Websites like rock, paper, shotgun that care about indies

I know you think yo are losing a few sales but just getting people talking will really help your cause. I've seen you've tried self promotion but it helps more from honest to God users and websites. I actually posted a thread on /r/games that did better than the one you had posted. The reason why? People want to hear from the consumer and not the salesman.

Yeah, I'd agree that that definitely is a problem. For those prices you'd expect actual hard copies of the materials included as opposed to a bunch of .pdf files; Home did a similar release on launch and Benjamin Rivers actually included Real Stuff with his Collector's Edition.

The problem is that I don't think you could immediately compare a game like Cypher to say, Analogue or other "kinda-sorta games-like-it", such as Gemini Rue or the upcoming Primordia. The only sort of thing you could really contrast it with are games like those made for the annual Interactive Fiction competition (which do include some [url=http://www.staticengine.com/splashdown/]good games).

I think at the most they need demos out and at the least they need screeners out. I remember the devs of Space Pirates and Zombies would show up to places like reddit and give away like 20 copies. These guys are going around, shamelessly self promoting on every website they can, directly responding to criticism in a negative way, and they've given away like one copy on facebook. There just isn't enough buzz.
DO NOT BUY THIS! This game is absolutely terrible.

As I wrote in the RPS comment section, the game is absolutely rife with all sorts of grammatical and spelling errors. There's so many mistakes that the sentences become hard and confusing to read - the writer messes up even basic expressions like "laying low" which becomes "laying down" instead (huge difference).

Example

http://i45.tinypic.com/k142ef.jpg
- “you almost kill me”-> killED
- “half of NeoSushi retrievers on my ass” -> NeoSushi’S
- “how the hell you’d think” -> “how the hell DO you think”
- “try to slid the blue keycard” -> “try to SLIDE”
- “Lime doesn’t quite blinks” -> BLINK
- “pull them back again” -> PULLS
- “what was it this time” -> What (capitalize!)
- “another one” -> Another one!
- “or was it” -> Or
- “you are a wanted man Dog” -> “You are a wanted man, Dog”
- “I told you to lay down” -> “I told you to lay LOW”
- “I should had known” -> “I should HAVE known”
- “the card” -> “The card”

Besides that, the parser is a travesty. You can't use abbreviations, you can't use a key to repeat the last command, half the time the game gives an error when you try to do something that is logically sound. For example, the game tells you there's a keycard. You say "look at keycard" and get "syntax error". You try to pick up the keycard and get another error.

This is the worst a text adventure can be - if you have a bad parser combined with horrible writing (and even if you were to fix the mistakes, it's still very very badly written like a really cheap fanfic).

I regret spending money on this - as good as the graphics are, whoever wrote the text should receive a good kick in the bollocks for not even asking someone else to check the spelling.
I picked it up over the course of the weekend, and I like it. However that being said, it would be a lie if I stated it has no issues. The talk of grammar and punctuation is correct, it does need work in that area. Also I agree that a Demo would go a long way towards fostering a community...

On a side note with CYPHER being my first text adventure, which I am enjoying. Are their any others the gog community could recommend. I faintly remember one about a grue...?

That may be why you're enjoying it :p I bought the Infocom Collection back in 1998 and hadn't played any text adventure games before that but wow, these games were amazing. They were hard as hell, yes, but the writing was incredibly tight and done extremely well, the parsers were very advanced and often guessed what you were trying to do. Compared to those games (which were released in the first half of the 80s), this game feels incredibly primitive and very very amateurish. It looks pretty decent but that's it.

Still I remember from some show a joke about a grue (correct spelling?), and it was a text adventure I think... If their are better ones, or others you might think I enjoy, or you yourself enjoy please name them. I would love to discover more of this at least new to me genre of gaming.
