The final frontier is 40% closer today!

FTL: Faster Than Light, the starship managerial roguelike-like sim that will make you feel like a Starfleet captain, is available for only $5.99 on GOG.com. That's 40% off for the next 24 hours.

FTL: Faster Than Light is a tough game. Some would say that at times it's unfair. To that any spacecraft captain would promptly reply: "life isn't fair, crewman! Suck it up. Now zip-up that red uniform of yours and go check the contamination levels in the second airlock". They would be quite right. Life in the depths of space has no place for such concepts of fairness. You need to be prepared for solar winds blowing in your face. You need to expect to be suddenly boarded by alien pirates. You need to have a backup backup backup reactor core. That's just every day's reality for a starship commander. Although, hard as it may seem, you get to reroute power to the shields and launch photon torpedoes at stuff, so in the end it's way more satisfying than all other careers you could have.

FTL: Faster Than Light is a meticulous simulation of a spaceship commander's duties. The fate of the ship and its crew lies in your hands, so your performance has to be flawless. You have to track many of the craft's systems at once, issue orders to your men, and plan at least five steps ahead. The galaxy you'll be traversing is procedurally generated and full of danger, so the game provides infinite replayability and challenge. If you are a sci-fi fan and you enjoy difficult games, FTL: Faster Than Light will mesmerize you with its setting and unforgiving mechanics.

Boldly go, where several men have gone before and got their butts kicked by aliens! Grab FTL: Faster Than Light, for only $5.99!

Ghorpm: Tempter!

I... must... resist...

Zoltan999: lol, just fyi, there are some people who find/found it frurstrating, partly due to the Rogue-like nature of the game, so just be aware of that. I initially felt that also. But once you play a bit, and "get" how to play the game, you will find yourself getting to the Boss at the end, nearly every play through. Unlocking new ships, and learning their strenghts (and weaknesses), to get to the Boss, makes for more extended fun as well. Ohh, sorry, am I inadvertly tempting folks again? ;)
Yes, you are! And a funny thing: it was the sci-fi part that was not appealing to me. Rouge-like game is always a good news for me. Sword of Fargoal is one of my best games for almost thirty years now...

htown1980: And therein lies the great dilemma. I guess I will buy this now, support the devs and gog a little bit, especially because its multi platform.

SimonG: It is a really, really, really nice game. Truly unique and fun. It's not PS:T or some grand adventure. But it is highly addictive in short bursts. Also, the modding community is growing fast.
Bought and successfully added to my backlog :)

My work here is done ....

(It actually is less of a backlog game (which you "play through from start to finish", as a "jump in jump out games". Not that this means you won't spend ours in a session ;-). )

Kolto66: nice! :-)

but there are too many games right now to play.....so i skip this just for now.... or ... it's so tempting!..... .... ... ... ... ...

Bloodygoodgames: LOL, me too.

Have been wanting this for a while but after a major outlay on my websites yesterday there's no spare cash left this month. Will definitely grab it in the next sale though (and hopefully by then my backlog will be less :)
Indeed 2x... My wallet is empty GOG...
Good game.
Such a great game. If you're on the fence about FTL, climb the hell down and buy it now.
Is this really that good? :x
Does it run okay on Intel HD Graphics? My laptop doesn't have a dedicated graphics card...

If it'll run on my 64 MB GMA 950, it'll run on just about anything.
Hmm odd I did watch TB's WTF on this one just yesterday and thought "damn I wished it would be on sale so I can buy it right now". And now you guys come around and happen to do just that. Conclusion, my wallet is now missing 6 $ and I am pretty damn happy about it.
