If you like adventures, horror and psychological stories, get The Cat Lady and Sanitarium (in this order).
If you like good, multi-layered stories with tones of philosophy, get Planescape: Torment.
If you're a fan of oldschool adventures, get Resonance and Primordia (and Blackwell - it's more than 9.99, but you get four games)
If you like classic adventures, get Gabriel Knight series (5.99 each).

Oh that's good, because I'm the only one on this planet, or in this forum, that likes violent video games. Right. Sure. Pull this one, it's plays "Jingle bells". :P

Seriously, I know you are just goofin on me, but whenever someone says that to me I picture the game designers sitting around, "Let's put something in the game that allows you to hack off limbs and use them as weapons; there is some dork in Michigan who likes that and we should dedicate out efforts to making the game just to his favor."
1. System Shock 2
2. Deus Ex GOTY
3. The Witcher
4. Gothic 2
5. Gothic 1

And, if you could double your budget, go for The Witcher 2.
