akhliber: Sorry to make a thread about this, but I am heading out this morning (3:30am here) to get knee surgery for a torn quadracep and some damaged cartilage / tendons / ligaments. It's driving me a bit mad, as Fed Ex should be delivering all my new computer stuff today, and I'll be in a leg immobilizer for six weeks before I can even start physical therapy.
Once I pay off the new computer, I'll throw another giveaway to celebrate, but for now, I just figured I'd ask that you guys wish me luck! I'm not one to be nervous about surgery, and have had knee surgery in the past so I'm not anxious about the actual procedure, just about the long recovery time and frustrating issues that come with it.
Anyway, just thought I'd ask for some good thoughts, not so much for me as for my wife and folks. I'm not the praying type, but I've nothing against it either. So long as I can get the computer set up afterwards, all will be well. Otherwise, THE OPERATION WAS A FAILURE. lol ;)
I may decide upon returning from the surgery to just have a giveaway with one of the games I've been trying to trade, as I hate games collecting dust, real or binary.
So sorry for the rambling thread, I hope all have a wonderful day! I can't wait to start installing some games on the new rig.... (!!!)
I favorited this thread so I could reply.
You don't sound very upset, and that's good. It's better to get this all taken care of now, then jiffyrig it and pay for it for the rest of your life like I did. I tore my knee back in 2005 I believe. I never went to the doctor after my initial visit and tried to rehab it myself out of stubbornness and saving money. The end result, is I rushed out of my immobilizer and off my crutches too fast and ended up retearing my knee when I stepped wrong. As if that wasn't bad enough, a few years back I slipped on some hidden objects in our yard and tore it a third time.
I've still never gotten surgery or anything on it (mainly due to economics), and frequently have my patella dislocate as rarely as three times a year, to as frequent as once a month. On top of that, I suffer from patellar subfluxation, where my knee attempts to go out, causing me to lose all my balance and stability. And having to baby my knee all the time has led to other issues with my other knee, my back, and fun things.
So morale of the story: You did the right thing getting this taken care of now and properly instead of finding a way to try and circumvent the situation.
