Tizzysawr: Yeah. The DS wasn't really much of a success until the DS Lite arrived. The 3DS, however, hasn't needed such a major redesign so far to take off (Well, there's the 3DSXL but for me that's an actual step back since it isn't even portable and looks fugly).

Adults? Being 25, I don't think I have much growing left to do :P

I've yet to use a controller from any of the Japanese game companies that's large enough for my hands. MS does a pretty good job with it's XBox controllers being large enough, but with that puny PS3 controller if I hold it with those horns in the palm of my hand, my thumbs would be pressing the controls on the opposite side of the control pad. And don't get me started on that Wiifit board, I'm not overweight, but trying to sit on that thing has proven to be impossible.

Like I said, the controllers were designed with munchkins in mind, and they refuse to sell controllers, even as add ons, that are more adultly in size.

hedwards: There's no need for them to keep producing the DS, I assume the production costs of the 3Ds have come down. For those that don't like the 3D you can always turn it off. And I believe that the 3Ds is capable of pretty much everything the DS was capable of.

Yes, production costs are down. Back when they announced that they would reduce the price of the 3DS because it wasn't selling well, they were losing money on every unit. IIRC by the end of last year Nintendo revealed that they started making money on each unit again. I know I'll be buying a 3DS before of the end of the year for sure.

Do you think the 3DS looks kiddie? It's almost the same as a DS, which is a rectangle with rounded corners. IMO it looks like any generic widget. The Gameboy Micro remains their best looking handheld ever. Too bad it was a failure sales-wise.

Yeah probably tried to make it designed for "average" people, which means you could just have big hands. :P
Also, though it's slightly stereotypical but Japanese people tend to be smaller than Caucasians.
I think all video game journalists should just unite in ignoring Pachter. He's so needy for attention, he'd probably hang himself a week later.
I whish pople would stop paying attention the that assclown Pachter. He's like some sort of monster that feeds on people quoting him.

Luisfius: The 3DS sold more units on its first year than the DS.
Great job outselling a system that had only a remake of Super Mario 64 as a reason to buy it. It really wasn’t until games like Nintendogs, Mario Kart or New Super Mario Bros got released that the DS was even worth owning. All the games up to that point were just tech demos. The 3DS on the other hand launched with Nintendogs and Street Fighter IV. I don't think the 3DS launch lineup was that good, but it was far better than the DS one. Notice also that the DS really started selling when Nintendo started treating it like a portable SNES instead of a portable N64. Not to mention the drastic price cut the 3DS received

Luisfius: The WiiU is underperforming. On the other hand the 3DS prints money. Yeah. No.
Is the 3DS profitable by now or are they still selling it at a loss? I know that after the price cut they had to make losses on each sale.

Profitable: "In addition, the company announced that as of July 25, 2012, it was no longer selling Nintendo 3DS hardware below manufacturing costs."

Well, I'm not even Caucasian and at 170cm I'm not even considered tall (Just average for where I live), but I'm some good 10cm taller than my Japanese teacher, so I'd be inclined to believe that stereotype :P

It'd probably still be profitable if they sold it a lost cause unlike Microsoft I'd say Nintendo have enough 1st-party titles to use the "hook and blade" (think that's the correct name?) technique.

Thanks for the information.
Nintendo will need to do something soon for the Wii U. It is tracking behind where the Gamecube was so far. Even the PS3 after the disastrous 599 US Dollars! launch was selling better at this point. The situation with 3rd parties isn't helping thing either. They are going to have to try and fix that, get more good games out soon, and probably eat a price cut to get this system back on track.

The 3DS is selling great in Japan and OK to good elsewhere. They just need to stay on track with it and things will be fine. Even if the Wii U is a failure, they have plenty of money that they won't be going out of business anytime soon.

The main reason the Wii U is doing so poorly is because it doesn't really have enough games. Hopefully nintendo will fix that issue.

No its because they CALLED IT THE WII U!!

But yes the launch titles were weak, what happened to "System sellers" like "The reason you bought this console is for X game" and New Super Mario Bros. U is no system seller.
