In the end it comes down to market shares. If Microsoft sell 10 million XBOnes and Sony sell 25 million PS4s, no publisher in their right mind will choose to ignore the PS4, DRM or not.

They can sell for a lower price because they do not need to force something like the Kinect-Spy on people.

I get what you're saying, but you should be careful about such gross generalizations. Automatically dismissing any criticism of the gaming industry as "entitled whining by spoiled brats" is just as childish and ignorant as some of the things you are trying to denounce.

And entitled whining or not, it should be given a crap about. If the people whose money you depend on do not like your product, you have a real problem. You personally may find it annoying, but in the end it comes down to what people are willing to pay for and what they refuse to pay for. Of course, some of the most vocal gamers have shown a remarkable tendency to fold up like wet cardboard on release day and buy whatever it was they were complaining about anyway, but that doesn't mean that all criticism can safely be ignored.

Quite honestly? I personally could do without a publisher who throws a pissy fit simply because they can't stop their games from being traded in. There are enough games around from more respectable publishers. If they stop trade-in, you know EA and co. are simply to going to start whinging on about something else supposedly depriving their starving developers of money.

Given that I've bought very few EA games in the past couple of years (I think Syndicate on the cheap and FIFA 10 for €3), a lack of EA on the PS4 or Wii U is unlikely to change my gaming purchases much. (Edit: Tell a lie - I have bought EA games off GOG, but I'm not sure that counts)

FIFA may be able to sell 7.4 million in the first month worldwide, and CoD may be sale to sell 7.9 million in the first month in the US, but you have to consider that the majority of these markets are generally the sorts of low-income groups that rely on being able to trade previous instalments in.

I would bet that as soon as any attempt to eliminate used games fails to produce an increase in revenue, the focus will fall back to piracy.

A simple key check that locks to your Sony account (or whatever they use for PSN) will pretty much render second-hand copies useless. Even if this system is not the default, won't really matter much if a publisher is set to disable the use of second-hand copies.

Relative to the price, both may offer subsidised editions, so the prices of the consoles really don't matter. We're still several months away from release, so lot could happen by then.

For what it's worth, I have no illusions about Linux. I use it as a secondary OS because it does what I need it to. I'd be more worried if I were you about the encroachment of Macs on Windows' marketshare.

Ah, certainly, but you didn't give any examples. When saying things of that nature, it is always a good idea to mention exactly what you are referring to, lest people get the wrong idea.

The loaning system for xbox hasn't been talked about but atm, but you can just choose 10 people who can use your games anywhere no need to even give them the disc. The only limitation is only 1 of you can play that game at a time. I can see groups of friends exploiting this to generate large mutual game collections.

Eh not hilarious, but I can't blame them for poking fun this time around since their PS3 introduction was horrendous as well back then.

I think this is truly how they see things in many ways. Regardless, Sony burned all my bridges to them with the PS3. They took an amazing console and ripped out some of the best features that sold it. They have made too many poor decisions for this one announcement to carry much weight with me. I'm still likely to skip the next round. At best, I'll wait for price drops and "greatest hits" on sale before I make any decisions.

Its always great to hear that DRM isn't being used... but they also promised linux and backwards compatibility on the last round... so their promises have no value to me.

The PS3 introduction was AMAZING... its what they did after that that was problematic.
