It has been years since I've brought a new mouse and my (very) old ball mouse is beginning pack up and I need a replacement. Not looking to spend much maybe about £20/£30 but looking for something reliable.

What would you recommend?
I just bought a Microsoft Intellimouse 4500 blu-track for £10....

It does me!
I've got a Microsoft Sidewinder X3 and it's pretty good. Great for gaming, reliable and well-performing. Doesn't have a million buttons or features, but for the price (30$ in the US, I don't know about UK) it's definitely recommended!

Oh, also, it's wired. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but I actually prefer them that way :] and the buttons are reprogrammable.

EDIT: looking on amazon.co.uk, it's only 12.5 pounds. Quite a deal really ^^. If you want some extra keys, flashier design (and you're right handed!) you can also look into the X5 for a little over 20.

Logitech M705 or Performance Mouse MX, both wireless, the latter has a standard micro-USB plug and can be plugged in and used while charging. After my old MX700 which went bust a few years ago, those are the best mice I've used. Personal opinion of course.

The microgear wheel is awesome as well, having distinct clicks and a button to switch to and from almost frictionless scrolling.

I was looking at this one on Amazon and wasn't sure if it was a bit too cheap. I don't really care about extra buttons as I'd never use them anyway and i prefer wired as you don't have to worry about the batteries running out.

Now I just have to wait until my vouchers arrive.
Do you have a fairly large hand? If yes, I'd recommend the G500, amazing mouse. If it's over your budget, see if you can get the old MX518 from somewhere, those mice are amazing.

Best mouse I've ever used. I love it.

It should be, it's descended from the MX500, which was the wired version of MX700.
You can't go wrong with Logitech, but if you're going to spring for the G9 series, spring for the G9x, since it has most of the bugs from previous models worked out.

I haven't had the opportunity to try a R.A.T. mouse, but I did have one of the original Cyborg mice (when Cyborg was still Saitek and not Mad Catz) with the motorized length-adjuster thingy. If the quality is still the same, I'd make sure to fill out that warranty card, since the right mouse button on mine failed after a year.

While Cooler Master make a good case, their "CM Storm" brand line of mice leave much to be desired. Poor drivers and even poorer customer support (There's a really long story about how I and almost every other customer who complained about the poor software, and then complained about having our complaints deleted were permabanned from their CM Storm Sentinel support boards) .

Guess it depends how you hold it, I also have one of these and I hate the position of the "slower scroll speed button" because I'm always pressing it. I could disable it if I installed the full driver set but still for ME it's in a dumb place.

In a nutshell if your a gripper you'll be fine with this but if you relax your hand over the mouse you will hate it as I do.

It works for some people, and some people hate it's guts. Me included. Killed my hand, completely.

Bought a Razer Imperator. Not perfect, but helluvalot better for my hand.
I have a RAT 7, it took at least 2 weeks to adjust everything to my preference, but it's perfect for my hand. As stated earlier in the thread, it's not the universal mouse thats good for everyone, but for those that nitpick about minor things with adjusting certain features, it's really nice.
Cheers guys, I plumped for the cheap Microsoft Sidewinder option. It's crazy the types of mice out there. If this don't work out i'll pop back to this thread for a slightly more expensive one.

Next up will be a good stick to play all the space sims I've picked up from gog, not sure I'll be able to sneak that past the wife though....
I've seen several threads like this around the Internets recently...Steelseries Xai was always the top recommended, even by those who tried all the other popular suggestions. It's wired, though, if that bothers you.
