KoolZoid: One thing - does anyone know what's 'Special' about this Special Edition (GOG-goodies not withstanding)? I have the XBox Collector's Edition (with the shiny inlay and the 'Furious Wang' character or whatever his name was) - is it different to that?

Jade Empire (Special Edition) is an enhanced version of Jade Empire.

No changes have been made to the game's storyline. Gameplay-wise, this version features a number of additions. Among those are two new fighting styles (Iron Palm and Viper), additional weapons in sword and staff branches, ultimate versions of stat-enhancing gems, and two new monsters (Rhino Demon and Ghost Lord). Enemy AI is slightly improved; enemies tend to block more often, and a few of them have additional immunities.

This release also includes a Jade Master mode, available after the player has completed the game once; it allows the player to keep all the styles and techniques mastered from the previous playthrough, but with the character level reset to the lowest, and the combat difficulty level increased. A new world map feature allows the player to access previously visited areas.

The interface has been improved, allowing quicker access to various fighting techniques. Up to ten styles can be bound to quick keys (as opposed to four in the original version). The graphics feature more detailed textures and resolutions up to 1600x1200, as well as some other DirectX 9.0c features.

Leroux: Wow. Just wow. Kudos to EA for releasing a more recent BioWare title here on GOG, DRM- and Origin-free!

Fred_DM: erm, Origin didn't even exist when this game was made and released.
Apparantly it's still owned by EA though, and EA owns Origin. It would have made sense for them to sell their licensed titles in their own shop. But I admit, that post was pretty uninformed, it seems Jade Empire is not even available from Origin.

Merchito: What is the "Special Edition" adding to the original release? Is it graphically enhanced ?
The PC version was published as Special Edition with gimmicks as artbook and poster and better graphics.

Edit: Too late. ;)

Isn't this a good OLD game? Yet it's regular price is $15. I picked it up in a steam sale a while back for £3.74 (after previously buying the limited edition for xbox on release day.) it's a great game just a bit disconcerted about the price. It is EA though ¬_¬.... shame as they started strong on gog price wise.
Gamespot video review:

After watching it I just had to buy it:
Oh lord! I never thought I'd see the day.

A DRM-Free newer-old triple AAA game.

Wishlisted. Now bring us Morrowind GOTY and Vampire Bloodlines next. :D

Good release : multiple languages, many bonuses and a correct price.

Also, the game is very good if you know that is isn't a hardcore RPG but more of an action/adventure game with light RPG elements in it. Also, its settings changes from heroic-fantasy.
What is the special in this edition? Great game BTW so straight to my wishlist
Edit when I wrote this only 2 replies was shown so I got blocked and ninjaed;)

now this is a true classic! the combat mechanics are wonderful :)

and John Cleese is just a bonus to it all :o)
low rated
Disappointing tbh, one game for Tues instead of two, and it isn't an old classic but a new-ish Bioware action game. Since Wizardry GOG seems to have gone lax on the classics, at the this slow rate we're likely to see all classics from the DOS/early Windows era by 2023...
So that's why I've been thinking about this game recently... I'm tempted to try it as I like its setting, but OTOH when it comes to action RPGs, I tend to be horrible at the "action" part. >_<
No special releases during E3? Meh.
Woohoo! Awesome release. Nice RPG in a not-too-usual setting. If you don't have it yet, get it!

mcneil_1: I thought 2K had the rights to the pc version?
Just distribution rights presumably, not publisher. Like how EA makes the boxes for Valve games but doesn't have any 'ownership' of the games.

Special edition = PC version, basically, as boxed copies were 'Special Edition' too. All new fighting styles, monsters and items, art book and poster plus crisper graphics and altered control scheme are the listed enhancements vs xbox.

The regular price is 15€ on Steam, so the GOG price is fine.

If you don't agree with the price, don't buy it. Vote with your wallet, that'll show them. Me on the other hand, I just bought the GOG version as I found the price fine for this particular game. I'm sure it will be discounted more in the future, but oh well.
