Mark games as 'already owned' (without purchase).
Presently best option is via a third party like istheranydeal and use a universal launcher to compile my game library like playnite. Takes a bit of configuring but best compromise besides using steam to flag what I own already. Plus double checking prior to purchases.
The checkout currently recognizes, if we already own every piece of a package (or vice versa). In that case the price should be set to 0, so we can 'buy' the item and therefore mark it as 'owned' manually.
Yes, there should be an option to do that and also an option where users could mark it just for themselves where they already have it (options like other digital store or disc or console) and whether they want to share that information to the GOG team for statistical purpose maybe without letting it be retraceable to the user itself
I accidentally pressed "already owned" button. Now I dont know how to delete it.
This feature would also be useful in cases where GOG still doesn't classify certain "Editions" as being part of your library on GOG. Quick example, I've already purchased all the content for the Telltale Batman Shadows Edition in previous sales. However, it remains a standalone purchase, even as the store page recognizes that I have already purchased DLC associated with that game. So why is the that Edition not already in my library?
I would like to see a second list for my account, next to the wishlist, where I could put the games I already have on other platforms. maybe with an option to specify the platform, so I don't inadvertently re-buy something just because it's on sale. right now I have to track everything through a spreadsheet, and that's not fun.
You can do that in GOG Galaxy 2.0
I just wasted an hour of my life trying to figure out how to tag products I don't own. Turns out I assumed this feature has existed for years when in fact it doesn't.
See also www.gog.com/wishlist/site/gogsteam_library_view which is a large part of why I want this ("already owned") feature.
1,000,000% agree. It pisses me off to NO END. I bought Stronghold Crusader 2 in a boxed set with two of the expansions. Now.. I cannot buy ANY of the expansions here, because for some ridiculous reason, GoG is insisting that I buy and own THEIR copy of the game for a cool $40.00.
WTF????
How is this not even a thing yet?! I'm still trying to find ANY website/service that will keep track of my list of owned games (regardless where purchased from, including physical media). Suppose Google Sheets will have to do. 8-(
Considering GOG Connect is all about making sure people don't have to buy games twice, it really would make sense for them to add this feature. I can already mark items I own on GOG as "not interested" on my Steam account, so this would allow me to do the same in the other direction.
+1, useful feature, as many of us actually have physical media (or other platform versions) of some games. Just make it a drop-down select: "I own this item from [other distributor]/disc".
I'd like this feature mostly because GOG's library page looks so sleek! No other game service looks as nice as GOG. Also, because I own the middle game of trilogy on a CD. D:
I don't particularly need the price to be greyed out, just a note next to it saying "owned elsewhere" (or as suggested below "owned: <user-note>" such as "owned: Steam"). That way if it's not linked to Steam, I have the option of re-purchasing it if I want (if it's on sale and happens to be super cheap, I just might do that).
Add possibility to make a short note to it, e.g. "CD-ROM" or "Humble Bundle" or so. (Display as: "already owned: CD-ROM"...) This will help those who have a brain like a goldfish ;-) like me...
This would be easy to add. This gives the appearance that Gog is just hoping for accidental double purchases. Not cool.
Just voted for this. The lack of this feature is an ongoing bug bear for me and many others. C'mon GOG - make this happen.
There are more and more games with deluxe editions and deluxe upgrades. When buying a game then the upgrade, the deluxe edition is not greyed out. Same with special pre-order which then become 'normal' game not noted as owned (Tyranny for example). Please make this wish come true ! :'(
Wow, so many years around, and still not implemented :(
Yes, this really is a want-have for any GOG user. At least the minimal version: A tag that marks the game as 'owned elsewhere' that greys the price in the game lists to make me aware I do have it.
I personally wouldn't want more, especially not that those games show up in my library in any way....
now that gog is linked to my steam account, it should also note for me automatically when browsing gog that i already own that game on steam
GoG are way behind Steam in this aspect. If you own it, the button becomes "PLAY". If you're not interested then it can be marked so.
I accidentally bought a game twice. I think the way they do it now is on purpose. :(
I think my wish is relatively the same, as I would to mark games as "Not interested" to avoid seeing them in the shop altogether...
Can we close this? I think GoG is doing this now? I see games that I own in bundles etc.
Would be better to add a filter to filter for owner or not owned. This is better described in this thread: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/filter_by_games_not_owned. Would be grate if these threads could be merged including votes.
but i thnik it's lready doing the owned thing already..
umm...I'd preffer it to have an option that won't list already owned ones in sales at all....makes shopping easier (for heavy sales buyers at least..)
I never had thought that I would have to vote for this request to mark games which I own on GOG as already owned. But after the Fallout re-release disaster this feature is needed. What an irony.
Yes this needs to happen, it's not even that hard. Just grey out games already in my library!
Honestly, if you buy so many games on so many other platforms that you're not even sure if you own the game or not... you should probably rethink your life choices and spending habits. So, I'd say no to this wish, actually. It's unreasonable to expect GOG to do this.
This would be amazing, because between GOG, Steam, my Playstation account (since PS+ has lots of indie games these days) it's really difficult to keep track of everything to ensure that I don't buy something again on a different/site platform if I'm not doing it intentionally (because sometimes it's nice to own it on different platforms, support the devs or be DRM free).
I bought the retail version of Witcher 3 and it's not recognized as "owned". So I would like to have an option to change that manually.
Same issue here. From 3 IndiePinata purchases I own all three games on Steam :( No more for me...
I'm with Sar. I got 7 just now (first three, than another batch of 4).
The first three were all new for me on all platforms, and all three were games I somewhat wanted (there's "I want!" and "I'd get this, for cheap, looks interesting").
The second batch... three of the four I already have on Steam, and the fourth I hadn't even heard before.
Still saved money, even for the second batch, since I spent 10 Euros on a game that's 13.50 (wouldn't have bought Unrest Special Edition for 22).
Out of 6 Pinata purchases, I already owned 3 on Steam. Won't buy any more, so gog lose out unfortunately.
I agree that it would be good to have a method of tagging games that we would like to avoid buying again, such as already owning Humble Bundle copies. The current Inde Pinata sale is a prime example where such a tag would be of use, that way my money can be spread to as many developers for the good of all.
+1. i don't participate in random sales—like the piñata sale currently running—because of the chance that i'll get something i already own from another site.
I'd definitely like this as an option. (I'd want the same thing over at Steam too) It always feels a bit weird to me when I remove a game from my wishlist because I got it on the alternate service in a sale.
I'd like some way to say "I own this, so don't try to sell it to me".
This is a important point. Please, add!
I can't believe this thread is 3 years old and no major considerations have been made for this. So sad GoG.
I agree, but "greyed out" seems unnecessary and just turns your library ugly for no reason tbh
I lol'd.
Would love to see this as a feature. I sometimes like to browse and being able to mark and filter out games I've already got elsewhere too that would be awesome.
Great idea! This would help both GOG.com staff and users, GOG.com staff needs this to gather helpful information. Users need this to mark owned games. I wouldn't mind if GOG asked where/how I already got the game. Happy to say I don't have many games on Steam that are also on GOG.
This would be a great feature! Especially since some games come to GOG after they appear elsewhere.
GoG is a great site, and I stop my self very often from picking up some of the games on big sales because I know, or sometimes only think I have them else where. An option like this does two things for me as a customer directly related to GOG. It makes me more willing to go through the whole sale to look for items I might like or need to finish a set or such, and two it lets GoG make other recommendations for games based on what I've bought elsewhere.
I don't think GoG has any reason to give the discounted bonus from their special bundles to games bought else where. I think a little You got dis. Tag is fine, but it's asking for too much to want them to give you the discount. I like and support this idea in a basic sense. Give people a way to tell us things that they own and aren't interest in buying again.
Linking to Humble Bundle, or elsewhere sort of like spoon feeding you. If that's something you NEED to have the alternative I can offer might be just the name of the location on the I have this tag. IE. You already own The Witcher 2 : On Steam. Or something like that. It seems a tad over kill for any more.
Sorry if this seems argumentative or anything. All opinions are valid for their own merits. I simple have limited use or need for some. I find the use being easier if it's not a lot of features and rather small improvement patches. Thus letting us get the benefits in a more timely manner.
Users need this.
GOG needs this.
It can also help GOG finetune their models. As in "this user fits a certain category that owns games A, B, C and D. But he has not bought game B yet. Why? Is our model wrong? Should we make a special promotion?
It turns out he already owns the game and your model is spot on. No more worries.
Also, new users need not be a blank sheet. "Tell us what you have, and we will point you towards something you may like."
Useful feature= YES and have the option of noting where else the game is owned.
This could be a BENEFIT to GOG as it could provide marketing info (Who owns what were) and would be very useful in doing "TARGETED MARKETING".
As a example, Customer owns Deus-EX elsewhere and normal GOG price is $9.99... you send e-mails to customer trying to incite him to purchase a DRM FREE copy @ $1.99.
While the amount of the sale would be much lower you garner a sale you otherwise would never get .(Unless customer purchased and found out later he already owned a copy elsewhere)
, it would also benefit GOG sales wise as it frees up the customer from wasting time double checking if they own something, freely them up so they could be hitting the "Buy-Now" button more often!
Another plus is it KEEPS THE CUSTOMER on the site....
(I find when I do suspect I may own something I get distracted during my search to confirm such...
I would think it would be better to keep the customer on GOG site, than him ending up on a "competitors" site and while there making purchases there instead of thru GOG.
KEEP THE CUSTOMER IN YOUR STORE!
Last reason for adding the feature is most of us are not "happy" finding out we already own such. Not many people rejoice finding out they just bought something they already had.
