This game is the reason I don't drive (and never will, thanks Uber!)
Graphics that still hold up even on its P(C)S(X)2 version, superlative sound design and even greater soundtrack selection, an unparallelled sense of speed that not even Paradise (let alone your Need For Speeds and your Gran Turismos) was able to match, plus the tightest controls-to-gameplay you could ever ask from an arcade makes Revenge the top contender for the best racing game of the seventh generation.
But it's the exclusivity of Checking Traffic and Crash Mode what makes Revenge unique, even among Burnouts. Very few things in life are capable of showering your brain with adrenaline like slamming a van into an incoming truck out to take a perfect turn –or slamming yourself against a truck as hard as you can after detonating the biggest Crashbreaker you could get.
Lucas Raycevick's 'Bring Back Burnout' video is the quickest way to see why Revenge is a must-play and a cultural piece of history worth preserving. It's been 20 years already. Here's hoping GOG makes it happen.
