A point and click fetch questing adventure through episodes of Connections 2, this game makes the most of its FMV characters and early 3D models. For anyone nostalgic about the show, it's a fun romp. I recall this taking about an afternoon when I was a youth. I would love to be able to play it again on a modern system and maybe show my younger friends what games used to look like when they were trying to teach you something.
I played this game as a kid and it inspired me with a sense of wonder, fascination, and curiosity for science and history that none of my classes could match. While the FMVs could be a little corny and the puzzles a little mystifying, the central mechanic of "connecting" seemingly unrelated concepts through historical or scientific links is an unparalleled demonstration of how the different subjects we're taught at school are all interwoven. It was the first time as a child that I started to understand the timeline of humanity not as a series of dates and wars and kings but as webs of causes and effects. It wasn't until I took a History of Technology class in college that I learned the academic terms for the ideas that this game communicated. I would absolutely love for this game to be playable, not only to replay it myself and show my friends, but also because I desperately want more media like this for both adults and children. So often we're encouraged to take things out of their contexts, or imagine that we can be isolated and insulated from events and ideas outside of our little worlds. I want a chapter of this game where a chain starts with a Byron poem and ends with modern computers. I want kids to be inspired like I was inspired. I've been hoping for this game to get the GOG treatment since GOG began, and I know it's a long shot: at time of writing I am the 21st upvote. Maybe I'll never get it. But maybe someone will see my little love letter to this game and make something new.
Point-and-click adventure games were all the rage in the 90s, and while to heavy hitters like Myst got all the attention, there were some real gems in the genre that deserve another chance. Connections was a British TV show that featured educational topics related mostly to history, and its host, James Burke, serves as the host for the game, guiding the player through levels with historical facts while you solve relatively simple puzzles. It's surprisingly robust, and even offers a really thorough hint system in case you get stuck or lost at any point. It's a highly immersive way to teach history and it would be great if this game was made playable again.

Flashback: The Quest for Identity
Flashback: The Quest for IdentityThroughout the 20th century, an unprecedented political and economic crisis afflicted Earth, leading to the systematic disabling of it's programme to conquer outer space through lack of funding. The highest priority now was to carryout research into new energy sources, preservation of the enviro- ment and maintenance of the cultural heritage. However, at the dawn of the 21st century, provision of considerable funds from an unknown source released by the politicians of the new, unified government, permitted a return to the space research programme. The conquest began gradually with the construction of huge, manned artificial satellites. Several lunar bases were created with the view to becoming future Earth colonies within the solar system. The considerable advancements made together with the supply of increasingly greater sums of money allowed man to explore, even as far as the planet Titan. You play the part of Conrad Hart, controlling his every move through the 6 levels of the game. During your quest, you will come across many different friends and foes whom you may wish to help or vanquish using your gun. you will have to complete many challenges in order to restore your lost memory. Each level features its own unique graphics and hazards, linked by cinematic animation sequences.
