Discworld II: Mortality Bytes!

Discworld II: Mortality Bytes! (1996)

by Perfect Entertainment, Psygnosis, Sega
Genres:Adventure, Point-and-click
Themes:Fantasy, Comedy
Game modes:Single player
Story:Discworld II: Mortality Bytes! is the second point-and-click adventure game based on Terry Pratchett's series of fantasy novels set on the mythical Discworld. The game was developed and produced in 1996 by Perfect Entertainment for the PC, and ported in 1997 for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It was published by Psygnosis for the PC and PlayStation, and by Sega for the Saturn (only in Europe). In Discworld II the player controls Rincewind the "wizzard" (voiced by Eric Idle, as in the previous game) who has been burdened with the task of coercing Death out of his impromptu retirement and back into his regular duties. The plot borrows from a number of Discworld books, most notably Reaper Man, Moving Pictures and Lords and Ladies. It all begins in a quiet Ankh-Morpork street, where Rincewind and The Librarian inexplicably fail to die from a nearby cart-bomb explosion. The odd event is not shared by them alone however: occurrences of the newly dead re-awakening and disturbing the populace are being reported all over the city, prompting the Archchancellor of Unseen University to halt his usual activities of feasting and merrymaking, and to take charge of the situation. Much to Rincewind's despair, the entirety of this process involves appointing him to the task of finding Death and convincing him to resume his work.Show more

ok first off the game is called Discworld 2, missing presumed?! the title is a referance to a line in one of the books. it opens with a parody of lethal weapon, it has a strong monty python vibe running right the way though it (helped in no small way by eric idol as rincewind), it has elements from half a dozen of the early books (basically everything up to hogfather, sorry but no moist von lipvig or Nac Mac Feegle, its about 10 years to early for that), and it has rediculous logic rinning through it (the answer to life the universe and everything is..."because..." also the answer continues "blip blip blip out of cheese error blip blip blip cannot find drive z, blip blip blip unrecoverable application error blip blip blip please reboot universe blip blip blip year of the sloth blip blip blip"... this answer was provided by a supercomputer full of ants, and yes...there was an "anthill inside" sticker like the old intel inside stickers on old pcs. wow all that was from memory too... i was ten when i played this...im almost 40 now
This is the game which got me into point and click games. The writing is hilarious and the voice work is perfect. It's zany and the characters all have very eccentric personalities. Rincewind is a clueless dolt and so snarky to everyone. The puzzles can be a bit tricky to figure out. Has that very early try every item on everything possible and hope it advances the story. This is a true gem that needs to be preserved.

Like the first game, both aren't easily available to purchase onlin These are prime examples why something like GoG exists and why they should be added to the store!

Fun, fun, fun! I still own the big box thankfully, I'd love to play it again through GOG! Hilarious with wonderful 2D graphics, just before 3D's complete domination this and Curse of Monkey Island came along and they were gloriously gorgeous.

Got it on PSX as a kid and was one of my favourite ever point and click adventure games after Monkey Island. Would be great to play it again on a modern machine and upscaled in some way.

its what sparked my interest with the weird, wonderfully wacky universe of discworld itself. it also got me into point n click games, kinda solidified my love of single player games too
Like the first game (see my review of "Discworld"), Discworld II is a fun and light-hearted point-and-click adventure game, a must for all Discworld fans! It's full of humour and challenging puzzles (though, unlike the first game, this one is easier). :-) Again, you play Rincewind, the (Disc)world's most inept wizard (who can't even spell the word "wizard"), as you try to persuade Death -- you know, the Grim Reaper? Fellow with the scythe, doesn't get to eat much? Anyway ... because of events that I won't mention, Death has disappeared, and you must find him and persuade him to do his job. That's the story as it starts, but again, there are many more challenges ... and it is hilarious. Highly recommended! :-) Like the first game, this one features Eric Idle as Rincewind, and a host of talented voice actors to bring this game alive. The graphics are excellent too, and the challenge is pretty high. Give it a try: you won't regert it!

Fable: The Lost Chapters
Fable: The Lost ChaptersFable was expanded and rereleased as Fable: The Lost Chapters for Xbox and Windows PC platforms in September 2005. The game was later ported to Mac OS X by Robosoft Technologies and published by Feral Interactive on 31 March 2008. The Lost Chapters features all the content found in the original Fable, as well as additional new content such as new monsters, weapons, alignment based spells, items, armour, towns, buildings, and expressions, as well as the ability to give children objects. The story receives further augmentation in the form of nine new areas and sixteen additional quests. Characters such as Briar Rose and Scythe, who played only minor roles in the original game, are now given more importance and are included in certain main and side quests. Other character-based augmentations include the voice of the antagonist, Jack of Blades, sounding deeper, harsher and more demonic, and the ability to uncover (and resolve) the murder mystery of Lady Grey's sister. The updated edition of the game also applied fixes for certain glitches, such as the "dig glitch," in which the protagonist would move backward each time he used the shovel, pushing him through solid objects and sometimes trapping him.
