Knights of Legend

Knights of Legend (1989)

by Origin Systems
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Themes:Fantasy
Game modes:Single player
Story:Knights of Legend is set in the fantasy land of Ashtalarea. The evil Pildar has captured the ruler of the land, known as the Duke, and a warrior named Seggallion, who has fought and defeated Pildar in the past. The player controls a party of adventurers whose quest is to rescue the prisoners, and eventually vanquish Pildar. The player can create a party of adventurers, choosing between the traditional races of humans, dwarves, and elves, as well as a new race called Keldar, who possesses the power of flight. The game world is explored from top-down perspective. Turn-based combat takes place on separate screens. The combat system in the game is quite complex, including various types of attacks, parrying and dodging, as well as the possibility of targeting individual body parts of enemies. The player also selects commands for a defensive round, trying to anticipate the opponent's move.Show more

This game had such detailed character creation with a huge selection of races and classes to choose from. Then the combat was highly detailed where you could choose the type of strike and which body part you wanted to target. Endurance and fatigue were a big part of combat; wearing the heaviest armor would often leave your characters so exhausted they couldn't properly attack or defend themselves. Choosing a lighter armor was often better just so your characters could keep fighting. Story wise your party composition mattered. Certain NPCs or cities didn't like certain classes or races. I recall sometimes leaving behind favored characters to avoid being shunned by an important NPC. Also going to the arena to level up was a fun mechanic (each character had to prove themselves in single combat to level up) The downside was there was no realtime during combat. For the random encounters it didn't matter much since you would engage within a turn or two. For the story missions with bigger maps you would have to search for that last enemy to defeat, and having to click through each character's movement could get tedious. Despite the old and dated controls, I would love to play this again or see a faithful remake with all the detailed combat and equipment mechanics.

The most fun turn based combat ever. This game invented new mechanic about simultanous turn action with great result. This game invented spell creation based on suffixe and prefix, crafting, flying combat. Downside: it's UI is horrible, and it was meant to be use with extensions that never came
Loved this game growing up. Excellent combat, where you had to manage your fatigue along with injuries. Where your characters were hit mattered. A little to slow paced at times. And there were supposed to be expansions (one of the first) but sadly they never came. A hidden gem.

Wolfenstein RPG
Wolfenstein RPGWolfenstein RPG is a first-person shooter and role-playing video game developed by id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment, released in September 2008 for mobile phones and in May 2009 for iOS. In 2013 the game was removed from App Store. The gameplay follows the recipe from Doom RPG as it is shown in the first person while being a turn-based role-playing game rather than a shooter and puts emphasis on the plot. Combat and movement are turn-based, allowing the player time to select their responses in combat. The player turns at 90 degree angles and moves space by space. One step or action by the player allows all other characters in the area to take one step or action themselves. The game takes advantage of its deliberately slow pace, encouraging players to take their time and check out every little corner, read the books on every bookshelf, and destroy all the furniture to see if anything is hidden within. Levels include underground passages and weapon development laboratories plus a level involving a moving vehicle. The game also includes two mini games: the card game War as well as Chicken Kicking, where the player is awarded points for kicking a chicken into a score area.
