Story:Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter with survival horror elements, based on the Russian book of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Most of the game takes place underground, but several times Artyom will have to venture outside, into the perpetual nuclear winter. Game progression is fairly linear, though areas may be explored more thoroughly for items and ammunition. Setpieces include a few on-rails sequences, missions that involve defending a location from an onslaught of monsters, and others. A few stages can be completed in a stealthy fashion.Show more

The original Metro 2033 was pulled from sale when the Redux version was released but as usual with this kind of thing it's not a clear cut improvement. Features from the sequel were backported, stealth mechanics were heavily changed, enemy placement and patrol routes changed, scripted sequences were altered, and so on. It's a very different experience. If the publisher still insists on not selling the original Metro 2033, I hope it could at least be added as a bonus with purchases of Metro 2033 Redux, as GOG has done for other games. People who want to experience original PC version of this game are currently forced to resort to dodgy resellers of old Steam keys, or piracy.
Redux version of the game has some controversial design changes. I would like to have an option to play the original version. After all, GoG is about preserving good old games.
Metro 2033 is a pretty cool game. It's a shame that the original from 2010 was delisted from steam so really your only options to play this is by either getting it on the xbox 360, a physical PC copy, or from buying a steam key as it's still in steam's database but even then buying steam keys can be sketchy and it's also not DRM free. If the original Metro 2033 comes to GOG then it would be a great way of preserving this game and hopefully they can fix the performance problems that it had. Even though there is the redux version this game is still pretty fun to play and it's a bit of a different experience than the redux.

For me, this helped defined not just how vital a unique atmosphere is to a story but the unique possibilities of telling stories within games. Sure, it's very much a child of Half-Life, but the human and spiritual implications of Metro run far deeper than Freeman's journey. There's a tale in each station, the way the social order is set up — the markets, the beggars, the families and the different facilities for housing, relaxing and even waste disposal. The character of Khan helps protagonist Artyom and the player to understand why different entities and people behave the way they do. Even the moralistic arc of the karma system encourages the player to try to engage with the world on a deeper level, asking them to consider the stakes and cost of life as they sneak or cut their way through bandits, ideologues and the mutants. Perhaps its implementation is flawed, but it is a system rewarding engagement with the world on a more considered, tactile basis. It helps flesh out 2033's setting not just as a shooting gallery and dungeon crawler but as world separate from ours that we've had the privilege of being granted temporary access to. With the original Metro 2033 currently unlisted, a pretty important cult hit is now largely unavailable in its original form. Making this available would also help contrast against 2033 Redux and Last Light, enlightening players as to what was arguably improved and what was left behind as the series surged forward. The original 2033 is a rough gem and, despite carrying some of the developer's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. DNA, still stands tall and stalwart amongst its peers.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Odin Sphere
Odin SphereThe nation of Valentine was once a grand kingdom with powerful magic. With the power of a magical relic known as the "Cauldron," King Valentine subdued the neighboring nations and brought them under his control. His kingdom enjoyed a long period of prosperity... but a sudden disaster destroyed it overnight. War broke out between the Fairy Kingdom of Ringford and the warrior nation of Ragnanival over ownership of the now-abandoned Cauldron, and control of the wasteland that was once Valentine. With the battle growing fiercer by the day, Demon Lord Odin, King of Ragnanival, sets forth a plan to conquer Ringford and claim the Cauldron once and for all. Meanwhile, in the neutral realm of Titania, King Edmund had become a puppet king of his court sorcerer Urzur, who schemes to follow a forgotten prophecy and bring about the Armageddon; a prophecy stating that the world will be destroyed in five great disasters, but the survivors will become kings. As the nations struggle for control, the world steadily slips unknowingly toward its demise, and the prophecies become clear...
