Despite playing this game very little, it is enthralling to me how obscure and mysterious it is. It showed up out of nowhere on the Nintendo Switch eShop in 2022, there's little information about it online, pretty much only the creator's website, who allegedly developed the game all on his own using SmileBASIC, detailing the mechanics he implemented for this fighting game shown in a 4:3 ratio, very old-school arcade style
I feel like niche and great looking fighting games like this needs to break out and show every aspect of its characters and lore, and maybe even be played online and explored and expanded upon

The game is split into 5 chapters, with each chapter containing a number of main missions as well as optional missions. Once a story mission is complete, the mission can be played again with any of the unlocked characters. At the end of a mission the player is graded according to the player character's health, attack, and speed in completing the mission.Action

On paper, the PlayStation 2 version of Virtua Fighter II mirrors its arcade counterpart exactly. The people who worked on this port were clearly aiming for an arcade perfect title. The game apparently reads the controller at the same frequency as the arcade, 57.5 times per second. Purists who demand perfect timing for their combos should be in heaven. The resolution of the arcade has also been replicated, with VF2 running on the PS2 in 496x384 resolution. This leaves black bars around the game, but you can select to zoom up to full screen in the options menu of you want. The game offers up arcade, versus and ranking modes of play, all playable using either version 2.0 or 2.1 settings (selectable in the options menu).
