Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (2008)

by Midway Games, WB Games
Genres:Fighting
Themes:Action
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:In this arcade-style fighting game, both DC and Mortal Kombat universes are represented by 10 champions each, and one "boss" character, for a total of 22 fighters. Play is similar to the 2D Mortal Kombat games (with some 3D elements), focusing more on the special move aspect than the complex combos found in the previous three games (Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon). As with any Mortal Kombat game, Fatalities are still present for the Kombatants and villains, though slightly toned down to meet the DC standards of heroes such as Superman and Batman keeping to their moral code and not killing their opponent. As a result, the DC heroes perform "Heroic Brutalities", which effectively put their opponent out of commission.Show more

Why Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Needs to Be on GOG and Why It’s Midway’s Most Underrated MK Game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe may not have had the gore fans expected, but it was a bold and underrated crossover that deserves a second life on GOG. Released in 2008, it was Midway's final Mortal Kombat before the franchise was rebooted—and while it had a Teen rating, it still delivered something totally unique: MK’s brutal combat mixed with the legendary heroes and villains of the DC Universe. Despite the toned-down fatalities and lack of graphic violence, the game nailed its concept. Seeing Scorpion fight Batman or Sub-Zero clash with Superman was a dream come true for fans of both franchises. The cinematic story mode was ahead of its time, laying the groundwork for the strong narrative focus that future Mortal Kombat and Injustice titles would build upon. The gameplay introduced "Free-Fall Kombat" and "Klose Kombat" mechanics, adding fresh layers of strategy. What makes MK vs. DCU truly underrated is how it served as a crucial stepping stone. It experimented with new ideas, brought in a wider audience, and showed that Mortal Kombat could evolve beyond just gore and shock value while still feeling intense and fun. Putting it on GOG would preserve this pivotal moment in MK history—DRM-free, accessible, and optimized for modern PCs. It’s time to recognize MK vs. DC Universe not as a misstep, but as an experimental gem that paved the way for both the MK reboot and the Injustice series.

Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir
Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson ElixirFullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir is the third Fullmetal Alchemist video game for the PlayStation 2 and is the second Fullmetal Alchemist console role-playing game for the PlayStation 2. It is the prequel of sorts to Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel. The game has much improved visuals than the previous title, as well as all dialog being voiced over. To help boost sales, Square Enix decided to release the game with a bonus DVD in the United States containing the second and third episodes of Season 2 (episodes 27 Teacher and 28 One is all, All is One") of the 2003 anime series, since the show took a 4 month break in its Adult Swim broadcast. This DVD contains only English audio, with the shortened version of the 2nd OP "READY STEADY GO" by L'Arc~en~Ciel and the shortened 3rd ED "Motherland" by Crystal Kay, since that is the version that was to be shown in the Adult Swim broadcast. As of August 31, 2005, the game has sold 160 thousand units in Japan.
