Story:Arcadia is a world where continents float high above, and people travel by airships. Among the countries of this world, the most powerful one is the Empire of Valua. This is a masterpiece. I first played on Dreamcast and later on Gamecube and countless times since. It has a sense of exploration that most games still struggle with today that deserves preservation and attention. It's high flying adventure is one of the most magical things I've experienced. Ship combat is also an amazing part of the game on top of the standard turn based rpg formula. If you love pirates, adventure, freedom, and the idea of a world built of islands and continents floating in the endless skies, then this is an absolute must play.
If we think of games that made ‘core’ memories, for many these would be ‘FFVII’ or ‘Ocarina of Time’. Those would be a core for me too, but way later. Back then, what I had was a Dreamcast, and the dream that it casted for me that I will never forget is to fly the Skies of Arcadia.
Skies of Arcadia is Sega's Magnum Opus. It's rich world is a delicately woven, colorful tapestry full of dozens of unforgettable characters, locales, and set pieces that stick with you for a life time. Sega has ignored decades of requests to make it available to play for modern audiences despite their doing so for other entries in their Dreamcast Era lineup like the Sonic Adventure series and Jet Set Radio.
A masterpiece of the late Phoenix Rie (Rieko Kodama), this convergence of Sega's JRPG lineages combines the operatic scope of Phantasy Star with the airborne combat and exploration of Panzer Dragoon Saga. A truly unique entry in the genre, unavailable to purchase for two decades.
it was the very first rpg game that was so fun and addicting to me that it made me want to 100 percent it more than once because it was so fun, and plus the music alone just makes it so amazing
I remember back shortly after I graduated, I bought a Dreamcast for the heck of it. It came with Skies of Arcadia. This game alone brought to me a love of airships and exploration that I hadn't experienced since the days of Final Fantasy 6 (3, back when I played it) The combat felt, admittedly a bit slow at first, but after a few hours in, I didn't even notice it. I would love nothing more than to experience this again.
This is one of the best JRPGs ever made, with excellent graphics, characters, soundtrack, and gameplay. One of the things that sets it apart from games of its kind is the battles with flying ships. It deserves a release on GOG so more players can learn about it and enjoy it.
Easily one of my favorite RPGs of all time. It was the game that got me into turn-based RPGs and to this day, I haven't played a game like it. This game needs to be revived so that way people can play this masterpiece. From the setting, to the story, characters, OST, ect. I played this on Dreamcast when came out and I've been hooked ever since. Truly an experience that everyone needs to play! RIP Rieko Kodama
An absolutely phenomenal RPG that doesn't get half as much recognition as it deserves, this game is a pure joy to experience. Every moment is beautiful, all the characters are great and it's completely epic. It's may be a controversial opinion, but I prefer this over FFVII.
Mystical Ninja Starring GoemonThe story follows Goemon's struggles to prevent the Peach Mountain Shoguns gang from turning Japan into a Westernized fine arts theater. The plot calls for three cinematic musical features and battles between giant robots; like other Ganbare Goemon games, it is peppered with surrealist humor and anachronisms.
The protagonist of Mystical Ninja is Goemon, a hot-blooded, kiseru-wielding ninja with blue, bushy hair based loosely on the legendary thief Ishikawa Goemon. The lord of Oedo asks him to find those who maimed Oedo Castle. Goemon lives in Oedo Town and is friends with Ebisumaru, a strange, gluttonous fat man who wears a blue bandana. Ebisumaru is defined as lazy and perverted. Their kunai-throwing friend Sasuke is a mechanical ninja (made by the Wise Man of Iga) who enjoys hot baths and Japanese tea. Rounding out the heroes is Yae, a fierce sword-wielding kunoichi, who happens upon Goemon's band in Zazen Town. The villains of the game hail from the organization Peach Mountain Shoguns and include a gang of four "weirdos" led by Spring Breeze Dancin' (Danshin Harukaze) and Kitty Lily (Margaret Ranko). The game series departs from Europe and centers on the "New World", the Americas. It is not directly related to the previous games in the series but it occurs in the same universe. The main characters' quest is to investigate mysterious "windows" from which vicious monsters pop out.
Gameplay follows that of its predecessors, using the Judgment Ring to decide most battle outcomes, as well as many other actions throughout the game. A new "Stock" system was made for this game which expands the combination attack system between party members from Shadow Hearts - Covenant and enables double attacks.
The "Stock" system works by filling up a character's stock gauge when he/she performs or receives an attack. A maximum of two stock gauge may be stored. Stock can then be utilized in many ways. For example, doing a Double attack (a character performs two action on the same turn) or starting a Combo consumes one Stock. A Double Combo on the other hand consumes two Stock. The Judgment Ring system essentially remains the same from Shadow Hearts: Covenant, with ring customization and added ring effect items being still available.
Magic returns in the form of Stellar Charts, where characters equip Stellars onto the chart. The charts are based on the constellations of the twelve zodiac signs. Finding and fitting all the Stellars onto the charts rewards the player with the Melt Crest Stellar, the strongest non-elemental magic in the game.
Fusion is also back in the game, albeit quite differently. Unlike Yuri, Shania does not possess the power of the Harmonixer where she is able to fuse into different demons. She makes spirit pacts with the different Guardian Spirits and draws on their power to transform. Shania is only able to fuse into four forms but through acquiring fetishes; statues of different animals, she is able to learn different techniques by powering them up.
Snapping photos is more emphasized in this game. Not only can Johnny obtain enemy data through his photographing enemies, he can also trade the snap cards obtained for prizes. Johnny can also draw upon the power of Malice to transform; though this ability comes rather late in the game.Fantasy Historical
