Because this particular title has not been released yet, I am commenting on its predecessor: Swords and Sorcery: Underworld.
I'm from the old school when it comes to RPGs, particularly dungeon crawlers and blobbers most notably from the 80s and 90s where you create your own characters rather than getting stuck with the stock offerings. Absolutely LOVE this game as it's right up my alley. I've fond memories in my youth playing games like Wizardry, The Bard's Tale, Might & Magic, the SSI Gold Box series of games and their more modern counterparts such as Legend of Grimrock, Devil Whiskey, Legends of Amberland and Dungeons of Dragon Knight. I especially love the ability to insert my own graphics for my characters' portraits, a feature that I feel should be standard faire in these types of games (helps mightily with the immersion). Granted, this is not an "official" feature, but because the graphics are simple PNG files out in the open within the Windows file system, it's easy enough to replace the PNG files with your own, provided you meet the requirements (PNG files with a resolution of 225x225 pixels and 24-bit color). I must've played through this title at least six times over the last couple of years. The hand-drawn, comic book inspired graphics are definitely a highlight and alone are worth the price of entry.
Sovereign is meant to offer more of the same with additional features. I am most looking forward to its release, especially on GOG if at all possible.
And here's to hoping that Charles (the author) will release Sovereign's predecessor, Swords and Sorcery: Underworld Definitive Edition, on GOG as well.
