Utopia: The Creation of a Nation

Utopia: The Creation of a Nation (1991)

by Celestial Software, Gremlin Graphics Software Ltd., Epic/Sony Records, GameTek, Inc., GBH Gold, Gremlin Interactive, Jaleco, Konami
Genres:Strategy, Simulator
Themes:Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:Utopia takes the Sim City gameplay concept and adds a military element to it. The game is set in the distant future, where your job is nothing less than Colony Administrator for a new settlement on some far-flung planet. Your aim is to provide the highest Quality of Life rating for the colonists. You do so by ensuring that there is enough life support, power, housing, employment, police and entertainment to keep the citizens of your colony happy. Hindering your goal are random events such as solar eclipses (which can render your solar panels inactive) and also a different, hostile alien race that inhabits the planets in the many scenarios at offer. Not only do you have to be a good mayor but you also have to be a good general. Resources must not only be attributed to civilian research but into weapons research, intelligence and the building of tanks and spaceships, if you wish to survive long enough to see your colony flourish into a metropolis. As a rule, you will have built a strong colony before the aliens come, but the final push towards a QOL of 80% or higher can only be achieved once there is no outside threat.Show more

Amazing soundtrack, It was one of the first Amiga games I played. My playing of strategy games began with this game. I remember worrying about the drop in the quality of life factor, sending spies and waiting for information from a foreign city. The game was challenging but not in a bad way.

Having originally played Utopia on the SNES and having only recently learned that there was a PC version of Utopia has opened my eyes to the possibility of finally enjoying this game again. The enjoyment that I got from building my own little space colony before it got wrekt by aliens since I didn't know any better about building tanks or spaceships was always a highlight.

Just the hours spent in a virtual universe. Stunning isometric visuals for the day with great sounds and a cherished memory of play and merriment. Something that I would wish could be shared with everyone.
I have spent so many times playing this game ! It was (no… it still is) a great simulation game. I ve played on Atari 1040 STe and spent countless hours managing my colony Bring it to life… again !!

Dune II - The Battle for ArrakisDune II - The Battle for Arrakis
Dune II - The Battle for ArrakisDune II is often considered the first mainstream modern real-time strategy game and established many conventions of the genre. Even though set in Frank Herbert's famous Dune universe, the game is only loosely connected to the plot of any of the books or the films based from them. Controlling either of the three Houses, the player must fight a number of battles against the other Houses. In the early levels, the goal is simply to earn a certain number of credits, while in the later missions, all enemies must be destroyed. The single resource in the game is the Spice, which must be collected by harvesters. The spice is converted to credits in a refinery, which are then spent to construct additional buildings and units. There are two terrain types: buildings can only be constructed on stone, while the Spice is only found on sand. However, units moving on sand attract the large sandworms of Dune, who are virtually indestructible and can swallow even large units whole. As levels progress, new and more advanced buildings and units are made available, including structures like a radar station, a repair facility or defense turrets and, for units, various ground troops, light vehicles and tanks. Each House can construct one unique special unit, and, after building a palace improvement, can unleash a unique palace effect.

Need for Speed: Carbon
Need for Speed: CarbonNeed for Speed: Carbon, also known as NFS Carbon or NFSC, is an Electronic Arts video game in the Need for Speed series. Released in 2006, it is the tenth installment, preceded by Need for Speed: Most Wanted, succeeded by Need for Speed: ProStreet in release order and succeeded by Need for Speed: Undercover in chronological order. This was the first game in the series to gain the PEGI rating of 12+.[citation needed] The game is a sequel to 2005's Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The locations of both Most Wanted and Carbon (Rockport and Palmont, respectively) are featured in the 2010 MMO game, Need for Speed: World. The PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions of the game are called Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City, set in a fictional city named Coast City with a significantly different storyline and also featuring different AI teammate abilities.[2] In 2009, a version of Own the City was also released on the Zeebo as a pre-installed game.[3] Need for Speed: Carbon is the final game released for all sixth-generation consoles (excluding PlayStation 2)
