First time I heard about White Album 2 is from the anime adaptation. It is fun romance anime, but here's the problem. The anime adaptation itself only adapt the opening chapter of visual novel, which is the prologue of the main story. There's a fan translation but you need to buy the game in Japanese storefront which there's 2 currency exchange for me. I just want to continue the story and need to know how the story end
Do you know what I did after watching the White Album 2 anime? I WATCHED IT AGAIN! That's how much I loved it. It immediately became my #1 anime of all time. The bad news was that the anime only adapted the first chapter of the story. The good news is that this was back in autumn of 2022 or so. After searching the internet hoping for a VN fan translation lo and behold some madlads who had been slaving away at it for the past 10 years were getting ready to release the translation for Christmas that year. It was the best Christmas present I have ever received.
Simply put this is my favorite VN of all time, one of my favorite stories of all time, and definitely my favorite romance out of all of them! I cried like a beach during multiple moments of the story and when I finally completed the last route, heard Setsuna playing Powder Snow for the final time and saying "Wie geht es Ihnen? Ich singe immer noch" I got up from my PC and broke down in manly tears. Absolute MASTERPIECE OF STORYTELLING!!!!
This hasn't been licensed yet by any western publisher but if by any chance this does get an official release in the west then I hope GOG gets to pick it up because more people need to read White Album 2. In the meantime grab a copy from wherever you can, apply the fan translation, and enjoy one of the most heart wrenching romance stories of all time. You will NOT be disappointed!
This is one of the best drama/love triangle games (pieces of media even) I ever saw, even if it does have a bit of soap opera feel at times. It deals with adolescents making less then stellar decisions, belonging, estrangement and feelings of guilt.
I played this game alone with the fan patch. One challenge is that it has a huge playtime. The other one is that H-scenes -which I personally did not really care for- are unskippable the first time. The absolute star of this VN (whether you like or hate her) is Setsuna, whose character is explored in all routes, developing her further and making her seem almost real.
It has a fantastic soundtrack, I suspect this is one of the reasons why it's difficult to re-lease / remaster it, because of rights issues.
It's fantastic and tugs at your heartstrings.
It would be a travesty if this story would be lost to the ages.
