i played this game for so many hours on my amiga back in the day! back then you had no real save feature so if you wanted to complete a longer game like this, you had to try to play it over one day. Something that made my dear ol mom kinda nervous because i was using so many hours playing this game! :D
I know there is a remaster of this game - and that is good as well. However some features and nuances i find better in the amiga version.
I hope to see both versions of gog eventually.
Upvote so that it can happen
It was so good due to it handled progression; first had to train yourself as a pilot doing either bombing or shooting ballons. As the game progressed, you got news from the front and events that happened in world war 1. This along with intersting gameplay, made it a way to learn about this dreadful conflict.
A cool feature was even if you got shot down, the war went on as nothing had pasted. You got a new rookie pilot that you could train up proceeding from that point in the war. This underlined a point about how little individual life mattered in this conflict of industrial warfare.
One of my favourite things about this game was if you could live long enough, you would get promoted or get new medals.
It was also great that you could do several different kinds of missions that played in their own way; strafing enemy transports (or even warships!) or bombing airstrips - or just fighting enemy planes. And in the in-game newspapers there is mentions of someone flying a plane painted all red... the great red Baron is someone that you can go up against if you are lucky enogh!
