Our party played this game a little over a year ago.

Now it flat out doesn't work in multiplayer.

Ie. When connecting via "join game", it stays on the "Waiting for response from server", we have let it run for fifteen minutes.

jingle.log says "last_ping_response_ = 1440909853" long before we let the game run fifteen minutes.

We have tried hamachi, gameranger, fixes from the troubleshooter on beamdog forums, connecting while in windowed mode, opening ports for upnp/ports+ip's, connecting directly via lan, no password etc etc ad nauseum.

The really useful thing to know is excactly what servers needs connectivity, and why the game connects to google servers for multiplayer, as can be seen in the jingle.log.

This is regarding the BG1 & 2 EE version, which we have on steam.
-& will buying the gog version change anything?

Case in point; what are the actual technical requirements to get multiplayer to work stable(ish)?
Can we get a tech reply to this, as we are able to work with the data/settings ourselves.

thank you in advance.

Please explain the issue step by step and which step you are having the problem. I am asking this because I just ran my Steam installation on windows side from Linux with WINE and it worked as expected (I own BGs everywhere :) ).

I am asking something like,
1. Run Baldur's Gate 1.
2. Click Multiplayer (do you see other players' games?)
3. Click "Create New Game". Enter the game information. Do not select "Local" if you are playing over the internet.
4. Are you creating a New Game or Loading a game?
5. Creating characters. Click Ready and Start.

That's the steps I've done just now while creating a test game. Knowing at which step you are having a problem may help understand it better.

As a side note, if my memory serves me correctly, everyone playing the multiplayer must have the exact same game version. I may be wrong but it won't harm to check.

EDIT: I also remember that having Siege of DragonSpear installed or not counts as different games. So, if you are trying to load a game from the time that you didn't have SOD installed won't work if you installed it now on multiplayer. Again, I may be wrong about that too but it's easy to check before trying anything more radical.

All versions are the same; even portraits are only the ones from the game.
-fresh installs, and we can all host/create, just not join.
BG 1/2 EE

As stated, we could connect & play about a year ago.

Can see other games fine, the problem is that when we join each other(have tried with/out password), it stays for fifteen minutes(longest time we have let it run) at "Waiting for response from server", and doesn't connect.

I am going to assume this game no longer supports multiplayer.

Hi, I had the same issue as you did, but on the GOG version, had to play through ZeroTier 2 days ago, and it worked.
Tried it last night and the infinite load on the " cancel " & " local network " ended to show the usual list of online servers.
Tried it again just now, it's still working.

Hope this helps.

Hey,

I am trying to do it through zero tier too.
Both me and my friend are connected in zerotier, I am through mac and my friend via windows.
The thing is that I am seeing him online in network but I cannot ping him.

Then I am creating a new game with the LAN option, correct? He is NOT able to see this game.

Could you maybe guide us a bit on what are the steps?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I play following these steps:

1. Create a network on ZeroTier and give the network id to other players (found in the upper left corner when you click on "show networks" in ZeroTier).

2. Other players join network by typing the id in the "join network" window of ZeroTier.

3. Find my zerotier IPv4 address and give it to other players.

4. Create a lan game in BG.

5. Other players connect thru "direct connection" by typing my ZeroTier IP.

That's all I do and it works great, unfortunately I do not know much about this software as I started using it only to play BG a week ago, I hope it helped.

edit: added a step.

Thank you for the recommendation, oru.

Checked it out on the net, and it seems people are getting mixed results with zero tier too.

I am reluctant to install Yet Another Lan Software, however i will leave your recommendation for others to find & try if they so choose.

(we are 5 people that have tried, and MP BG doesn't work for any of us(in any config), so it is by no means a single issue)

Better option would be that beamdog made their servers & connectivity work proper.

cheers
