Just wondering why GOG has not brought us Age of Empires series? The old original and the AOEII series would especially be nice! Updated to run on the newer Windows versions. I really loved these games and all I have are versions that won't run at all on Windows 10 or Windows 7. It sure beats me that Microsoft doesn't make sure that its own products with it's OS.
I tried the Virtual machine idea and could not get it work either.

Because they don't have a deal with Microsoft (yet). They can only sell what they have an agreement to sell, not anything that might catch their fancy.

And are you sure it's not a securom issue that's preventing the games from running?

Edit: PCGamingWiki lists only a color issue for Age of Empires though it does mention issues with the DRM for Age of Empires 2. Either search about signing the driver or use the unofficial patch linked in the PCGamingWiki article.

Because Microsoft doesn't give a crap? Just a wild guess. Also, Age of Empires 2 HD over on Steam may prove you wrong.

You may want to check out Galactic Battlegrounds if you haven't yet. It's basically AoE 2 in Star Wars clothing with some tweaks. Frankly, I find that game way more fun than AoE itself. *shrug*

GOOD CALL! :D

Or wait, maybe this works better |-o-|
I have AoE2 running perfectly on a VM so it can be done.
It sucks how Microsoft does not want to release Age of Empires on Gog despite knowing that many people will buy the game in a heartbeat.

Moreoever, Microsoft would benefit even more from allowing the Halo series to be sold on steam or Gog for PC version.

After 2002, I personally have not bought any Microsoft games due to their bad business practices.

I like Galactic Battlegrounds but the game plays nothing like AOE 2. I know it is the same engine, same UI, and same structure, but flying units make the game completely different. Simply building a wall does not work when tie bombers are crushing buildings or a droid drop ship just landed in the middle of you base.

Also in AOE 2 Priests couldn't fight. Their GB counterpart make fantastic armies.

Priests can convert though, meaning they "kill" one of your opponent units and "makes" such a unit for yourself. Priests are honestly useful in AoE2.

Yeah they are. My point was, both Priest and Jedi can convert, but only the Jedi can convert and fight which means you don't have to hide them after they run out of power.

I see, I'll have to try Gallactic Battlegrounds at some point.
All AoE games do run on modern systems with their respective userpatches. I have all of them in one form or another running on my PC running Win10. AoE2 is not coming because they have an ''HD'' edition that sells on steam with new DLCs. AoE3 is already on steam but most people use ESOC for MP so you'll be as well of with the non steam version if you can find it. Aoe2 non-HD is played on Voobly so again, CD / DVD will suffice for that. AoM also has an ''HD'' edition and new DLC so it probably won't come over either, but it too is played on Voobly so the DVD version with the required patches will be enough.
As for AoE1 with Rise of Rome, you can get it going with UPatch.
