So, I would like to run BATTLETECH beta and release versions seperately. I have downloaded both but everytime I switch it just starts a new download.

What do I have to do in order to keep both versions installed and usable?

But why?

In this specific instance because the Beta contains new rules that are being tested. I would like to test them and then compare them to the Release version.

Not sure if this would work, but you could install each instance to a separate partition. Should work as long as there are no registry entries that conflict, I think.

Yeah that is not going to work.

What would be the barrier? Registry?

*edit* Perhaps save game locations as well. I know this is the issue with No Man's Sky (save location can't be changed).

Sorry, I'm technically not very savvy, so my question may be total BS, but...

Isn't the beta the version before the release version?

And Battletech is released now (for quite some time - afaik)?

So - shouldn't the content of the beta

a) also be the content of the release version?

respectively

b) if the content of the beta didn't make it into the release version - why do you want to compare the content of the beta with the release - now? After the fact? What does it bring?

Why not just play the release version, as it is?
Can we just focus on the answer to my question?

I want version N and X both installed and usable without having to pull a 5GB download everytime I choose to switch.
Install the beta via Galaxy and use the offline installer ... pointing it to another folder ... for the stable. It could work but could give complicatians, at least the safe games are incompatible. And run the normal version without Galaxy open.

I think he's referring to the beta channel on Galaxy that allows you to test beta builds of upcoming patches and content releases for some games. As hohiro noted, I thought you might be able to install the stable version using the offline installer on a separate partition/drive, launching that through a desktop launcher/shortcut, and use the beta version through Galaxy. As long as there are no registry issues and it doesn't save the games in a non-changeable location, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Ah...ok.
I don't use Galaxy, so I wouldn't know about that.
Seen from my perspective, it just seemed funny. :)

Totally understandable.

Even games that are out for some times are getting atched and some of these patches are betas to test before all get them ;) ... so it is here, too
