Does anyone have both the Steam and GOG versions of Civ 4? I am trying to decide which to buy.

I have the collectors edition big box. It's the superior one since it has the little metal figurines.

HiSurge808

I don't have 4 on both platforms.

I do however have the gog version of 4. I have the steam version of 5.

I snapped up 4 on gog as soon as it was available.

This is not about versions though.

I wholeheartedly recommend you pick up 4 on gog as opposed to steam, simply because you will be able to download and backup 4 and all the expansions and most importantly be able to play anytime you want.

Accordingly to PCGamingWiki, the GOG Version is superior.

Pros for GOG version:
* DRM-free.
* It's cheaper (at least in my country).
* All multiplayer options work. On Steam the Direct IP option was removed from the "official" version, although you can roll back to an unsupported version to get it back.

Pros for Steam version:
* It includes Mac version, which has a different publisher that hasn't reached an agreement with GOG. On GOG it's Windows only.

TL;DR: get it on GOG unless you want to play on Mac.
