Boss in the high Caste.

Dead Cells, the highly addictive RogueVania that's been thriving In Development, just got some more juicy content injected into its constantly growing cells. Try it out for yourself, the game is now 33% off until March 9, 7 PM UTC.

The Hand of the King update takes you to a dangerous Castle where two new enemy types and a formidable new boss are waiting for you. On top of that, the developers have added a nightmare difficulty option, new weapons and skills, plus some tweaks and improvements here and there, one being particularly dodgy. Check here for more details.
Looks like a nice update! Can't wait to try it out.
Can anyone explain how this game works? I left the first zone and couldn't return. Is it even a metroidvania?

It's a roguelite vania.... You run through the level, get all the things you can and spend your cells at the intermission areas. eventually you'll get some items that allow you use various "transports" in the levels like the electrical coffins or the spore molds in the ground. You go through levels and boost your power based on your cells collected, and can boost your starting equipment and the like.
So it's a linear platforming / fighting game with a legacy mechanic.
Les gaaaars! GOG Connect, siouplé? :D

Félicitations pour le développement. ;)

Not fully linear, but yeah. There are branching paths once you unlock the movement items.
I haven't played the game yet, but it definately intrigues me. One question I have, is that the game claims to be semi Rogue-lite, so does that mean the levels are randomly generated each time you die? Or at least the enemy spawns? Thanks!
I cannot help but notice that despite these news the installer has not been updated.
(The current version is still 0.5.12 [10th January 2018].)

Levels are randomly generated (and of course repopulated) after each time you die.
You're welcome.

(There used to be a good review video on YouTube that explained the game quite well. I thought it was by TotalBiscuit, but I can't find it anymore.)

The installers will be updated tomorrow as the update arrived after we were already out of the office.

I was wondering about this too. Thank you, Judas!

I feel like this would be a good thing to make note of in the news post until the installers get updated. The game is being promoted based on an update that isn't even available yet.
Well, I'll be waiting until tomorrow then, for some reason Dead Cells is the only game that causes Galaxy to go absolutely nits and fail repeatedly on updates.
IMO, this is similar to rogue legacy for those wondering on gameplay style, you slowly unlock better items that let you get further each time
