Well, you wouldn't quite know it from GOG's text, but a whole lot of the games here aren't in the area that people love to complain about, at least :)

I have to ask... what do categories mean? Real question.

Porn, porn, porn, porn, porn, porn, Not porn, porn, porn, Actually not porn, porn, porn, porn... I have to ask, what's the difference between this and the NSFW sales?

Also some of the other items in the same are not visual novels, because they seem to have significant gameplay mechanics. Point and click adventure games, deck builders, RPG's... those aren't actually visual novels.

They're the same genre.

In Japan, they're all just considered to be "adventure" genre games, the same as adventure games from other countries.

"Visual novel" is just a marketing tagline that one company used on some of their games that stuck because Americans are super bad at naming video game genres (because let's face it, "adventure" isn't really a good name for the genre either, it just stuck because the first game in the genre had the word in the title).

It's just like trying to insist that Splinter Cell or Thief or Deus Ex be called "Tactical Espionage Action" genre games because that phrase is in the logo for Metal Gear Solid.

As I was just saying right above your post, the difference is that a whole lot of the included titles aren't sexual. Look at ciemnogrodzianin's list, sorted by price, or the first page on the sale page with the default sorting, by discount, and you'll see that a minority would fit those labels. And, leaving aside the accuracy of tags, if I filter out NSFW and Sexual Content tags, 239 of 432 titles are left. Or 145 out of 284 if I click Hide DLCs and Extras. So more than half in both cases.

About the second comment, yeah, agree with that, plenty of the titles aren't VNs or JRPGs, or J-anything.

Which is exactly why the GOG Bear is the true mascot of GOG. Something's always broken. xD
