The reboot of the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series is being released June this year. So far I've only heard it being announced as release on Steam. Has anyone heard anything at all about whether the game will also be released on GOG?

I was hoping that with BG3 being on here that we would get this on GOG too.

I didn't know that Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a reboot to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series. Could anyone please point me to the source where it's officially confirmed as BG:DA reboot?

the only thing i could confirm is that the expected release is based on the icewind dale trilogy of novels done by R.A. Salvatore

on the official dnd facebook group many writers and contributors to the scene are gathered. i would think that to be the best place for that question

This article on ScreenRant discusses the relationship of the new game to the old Dark Alliance games, and seems to conclude that "For the most part, it looks as if the new Dark Alliance is more of a spiritual successor to the older games than anything else."

Looks like one of those "D&D for people who hate D&D" type games.

I don't remember where I read it but...

... the game originated as a top-down action RPG... probably meant as a sequel...

... but after Wizards of the Coast picked up the game (and dev studio), it changed to a 3rd person "arena" style game.

So at this point the game isn't a sequel at all

Shame it isn’t a rerelease of the originals, they were quite fun games.

Wish this game -- if it wasn't going to be a direct sequel -- would have been a more open-world exploration game. I'm ok with the gameplay I've seen but I'm not 100% on co-op wandering from arena mob battle to arena mob battle arena...

... but...

... if you can play solo and still have a party...

... and if the gameplay resembles Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen's Bitterblack Isle -- where you did have large chamber / arena battles somewhat frequently -- I could get on board with this game quick!

When they announced this a year or two ago (it was supposed to come out fall of 2020 originally), I was excited to do some couch co-op with my kids. But no couch co-op. Ugh.

This is not the spiritual successor. This is a fantasy version of Gears of War.

I might play it, but I'm bummed it's not the game I was hoping it would be. BGDA1 and 2 were wonderful games and I haven't seen a game like them since. Some have tried to get the formula, but have failed.

After watching all of the trailers and gameplay I could find...

... I'm cautiously optimistic this will be a fun fantasy action game with light RPG elements. Unlike after the first few trailers, I'm interested now.

I also think with Larian's Baldur's Gate III developing there's a distinct possibility of a 3rd game in the official Dark Alliance line. Maybe? I guess we'll see.

I'm fine with games using cool settings for different genres, really. Can lead to really interesting stuff.

Yesterday...

... I heard a reviewer likening Dark Alliance to War in the North.

I took this to mean Dark Alliance would have ally AI but also allow for co-op -- since that was how I remember War in the North played.

I've since had some people say that Dark Alliance is solo play -- no AI companions -- in offline mode.

If true -- and I can completely see this TBH -- this severely diminishes my interest in this title.

If I can play great boss battles with competent AI companions in Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen -- which BTW also has incredible spell casting, something Dark Alliance DOES NOT HAVE -- or linear-but-fun combat with AI companions in War in the North, why go to a gimped MP release? Just for the graphics?

Seems there is no dedicated spell-caster, but limited spells can be cast by various characters.

The animation seems a bit floaty and janky in this video.

Still no word on whether ally champion AI will exist offline or whether if you play offline it's just you against the world? Definitely getting the feeling they didn't code ally AI. Hope I'm wrong.

Hm. Looks closer to Demon Stone than BG: Dark Alliance, and frankly not very impressive or interesting for a current gen game. The graphics are pretty average and bland, IMO. If you'd tell me it's a game from ten years ago, I think I would be inclined to believe it.

Heard back from the developers...

... there will be NO ally AI.

So if you play the game in single-player mode, you are not joined by AI companions.

With that said, I can only hope the game isn't so heavily weighted toward a cooperative experience that it is still enjoyable solo.
