There isn't much info about this on google.. but it is "Fade to Black" as far as I know..

The original "Tomb Raider" is the second "third person shooter" chronologically but in many ways it is the first in my opinion.. Tomb Raider had awesome controls, huge levels and "never before seen" character animations. It is the first one with modern TPS elements and feel..

Some of you may say it is an "adventure platform game" but it is a TPS at the same time..

I would like to hear your opinions if this information is wrong because Fade to Black is the oldest title I could find that actually had a true 3d environment and TPS shooting mechanics modern gamers are familiar with..

Let's settle this subject once and for all..
Wolfenstein 1-D
Will this gfx card be good enough to play that or should I buy two & SLI them?

hmm, might need to 3-way SLI
You mean specifically behind the back camera? Because The original third person shooter should be Space Invaders if not earlier.

not the man on the grassy knoll's companion then?!
There was Hunter for Amiga/ST, published in 1991 by Activision.

Spacewar from 1962 would probably win.

Guess I`ll wait, see if *cringe* steam does a deal on a four pack & SLI the lot that way, thanks anyway.

As for 3D, earliest I ever played was Alien Breed 3D on Amiga 1200, but a cronie had Rat Maze, I think this was it somewhere in `80 or `81.

This. It's the oldest 3D shooter with a human protagonist and third person perspective I'm aware of.

I mean first third person shooter in a modern sense.. with true 3d polygons, environments, character animations an all..

Games listed here are NOT 3d in a technical sense.. they are faked to look like 3d when they are actually not..

I don't think that that's a valid definition, just like 2D characters don't make Doom or Duke Nukem 3D any less of a first person shooter than Quake. But either way, by your definition that would make Hunter an older third person shooter than Fade to Black.

that has got a 2d protagonist and I think that rolling stone rock is 2d as well.. not a polygon, but a 2d animation faked to look like 3d..

So in modern sense, it’s not a true 3d game.. maybe I should change the title to say first 3d third person shooter? :)
Oh man, I remember drooling over the screenshots of Fade to Black when I was a kid and still playing Doom. It seemed so unreal. And these days kids start with Far Cry :P
