Korplem: I'm new to Wine, so I'm wondering if anyone here has figured out how to run the Windows version of Galaxy on OS X.

I'd like to play games that are, as of yet, Windows only. I've found this is possible to do with Steam, so I'm assuming it's possible with Galaxy as well.
As someone who uses Wine a lot, I recommend NOT adding something else that may or may not work under Wine and I recommend playing games via Wine by using the Windows installers.

The reason I say this is that any client, whether it's Galaxy or Steam, may or may not interfere with how a game launches in Wine. Along with that you may want to run a clean install of a game or add a Winetrick or two.

Korplem: Do you have a list of wine tricks needed to run Galaxy? (Although, I'm assuming it would be different for OS X.)

mike_cesara: As I said, I have no clue about OSX, using latest wine staging on debian. I'm quite sure I had to install some VC libraries to make Galaxy run properly.
Most likely VC2015 since the WIndows version requires that and gdiplus :P

mike_cesara: I am sure about 2015 but I think that was not enough.. Could it be .net?
I don't think Galaxy ever installed .NET on my Windows system at work so it's probably not that...

GOG does make things a little easier. :)
BTW, you should look into Paul the Tall's site for your Mac & Wine needs, he usually has some pre-made packages for GOG games http://paulthetall.com/

mike_cesara: make a shortcut to steam with -console parameter and you can easily download any depot using steam console:

download_depot 234650 237810
