wpegg: EDIT: fuckit - the important point is that you can. You can fart in the face of someone if you want, and that person can walk away. Equally so you can wank directly in front of someone and that person can have you arrested.

It's all about freedom, not our freedom to do what we want, but your freedom to restrict what we want, and to demand what we want. Others need to understand that what we want is a variable set of demands which if not met will require justification. We aren't just here to work our asses off, we are here to see our needs met, and it's about time the "Elise" met our demands.

I can go on, and will go on if needed, because this is impotent, it's about gamers needing something they aren't getting, wont get, and are hurt by it.
Actually, it's a bit larger than that...

Once upon a time, long ago and far, far away, the culture war came into being in the American polity, and in a short span of time it became it's defining characteristic. Why did this happen? Because monarchy was dying and being replaced with quasi-representative forms of governance, allowing for outcomes that were considerably more uncertain -- which was troubling to those of privileged status. So they devised a means by which electoral politics would outwardly appear to be "representative", while being extremely consistent with respect to financial and foreign policy.

How did it work? Three ways, primarily.

1) Political campaigns are horse races that are chiefly won by successful fundraising and vote counting.

2) Elite institutions like the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission train those deemed most suitable in the nuances of "public service".

3) The public is bamboozled with demagoguery re issues like abortion, race, gender, communism, drugs, etc.

Fast forward to today, and we see almost everything becoming increasingly politicized, and by consequence, polarized. So Gamer Gaters = alt. right, and SJW's = "progressive" Democrats. And yes, it's very, very serious to those who buy into this "real life" drama; but so, too, for those of us who don't, as we are all impacted by this massive and hugely successful psyop.

American elections are fixed. At least in Italy we know it.

Really speaking, it's the system that is "fixed", as only the scum is allowed to rise to the top, never the cream. But yes, elections are also fixed.

I'm just disappointed. I've been pro GOG because I thought they were pro consumer.

But they just threw ALL gamers under the bus with this. Because ALL of GOG's consumers will be gamers. ALL of us INCLUDING casual gamers, single player gamers, online gamers, strategy gamers, RPG and FPS gamers... we are all the same as far as this apology goes! Because they did nothing to distinguish that we are our own diverse community with our own trolls and our own champions.

GOG let us down and they need to do better but we are getting so distracted by trolls and "SJWs" that we are letting the blame not fall squarely on them when GOG should've stood up for us and sheilded us from these outsiders trying to make drama and attack us.

I have been trying to stay off this but this thread goes on and on.

I joined this site when it was just starting up for the games but found it had a great community of passionate gamers who where here just for the games. Move forward 10 years and as gog grew the forum has become become more toxic and now it is not about the games anymore but about politics.

With what is going on there is no winners here we all lose gog loses either through websites shunning them and loss of sales as customers suddenly dont want to buy here. We lose as less sales means less publishers will want to sell their games here so drm free games do suffer. Also i read elsewhere other epeople said theyi will boucott gog and pirate the game instead. Great idea that just escalates the damage as publishers get less money from sales and guess what put less games out drm free. So in the end these people only hurt themselfs in the long term.

As for people who say i will only buy from steam . Steam has done a lot of anti consumer items over the years and the ony reason we have things like the refund policy is that valve where backed into a corner due to preasure from countries .
I think gog should not have apolagised but then we dont know all the facts and there could be a lot of reasons we doont know about that caused them to apolagise.

So how do we stop this from happening again we can close the forums, twitter account and they can sell safe games like Barbie fashion show or something like that. That is the only way to not piss off someone but in this day and age no matter what you say or do you will annoy someone which just shows how things have turned for the worse.

All this political bull is destroying our industry, our fun and all this has been done by a few extremists who want to turn the masses o each other and for me it is a sad affair. We should be here for the games not fighing each other over politics.

I agree. We have the same problem with every other hobby. But the push towards politics is caused, is facilitated by sjws constantly trying to push their agenda in whatever medium they can get their grubby hands on. The political push against those sjws is reactionary. If the sjws stop trying to push those politics into gaming, you'll find almost nobody is left on the other side that are primarily there as a defensive measure to protect their hobbies.

That won't work, they will claim that barbie is sexist and try to destroy that too.

eVinceW21: What in blazes was GoG thinking making a mockery of themselves and their customers like this? Sad, pathetic, shameful display.

Tell me, CDProjekt, you label Gamergate an "abusive movement." Do you have outright contempt for your customers or are you just supremely ignorant?

The next several games I buy will be purchased through Steam. If I ever support Good Old Games again.
But that's the beauty of it, if the mainstream start believing that all gamers are abusive, sexist, racist, Nazi white males then maybe all the casuals will get scared away and leave our hobby alone. Everything that is bad in gaming these days comes from devs and publishers trying to push products to casuals, video games were awesome in the 90's and 80's because gaming was a nerdy male thing, once the casuals and women and their phone games invaded, games started getting worse.

Acutally, we do know all the reasons. If there's a reason we don't know about, it would be because gog has some unsavoury behind-the-scenes wheelings and dealings with partisan games journlolists going on. Which, ironically enough, is exactly the kind of thing the Gamergate crowd wanted to expose.

This is the bile that GOGcom courts and supports.

Anyone who buys games here supports the same anti-gamer and anti-consumer attitude and should be ostracised and removed from communities.

Obviously you're again trying to derail the discussion but this is beyond ignorant. Why wouldn't you want other people to see how cool the same games you love from the 80s and 90s are? All your gatekeeping will do is make it so the next generation of game developers are less likely to like gamers or games or any of our culture and that is NOT going to give us revolutionary games that keep growing and and pulling us back in for more!

I have my favourite games that I love and will play over and over but I don't ever think I will never love another game again. I am happy loving different games for different reasons i.e. the gameplay or the storyline or the characters. The games I love DO have diversity. NO game I love would be better for having less.

Bottom line is that "casuals and women and their phone games" isn't the problem. They are actually a great addition to our community! The publishers, gatekeepers and us as consumers swallowing their lies and allowing them to push us these stupid narratives IS the problem

Why ostracise? I'm less likely to listen to someone that is trying to do that than if they were just going to say 'hey did you know that this other site actually supports consumer rights?' Isn't ostracising what got us all called monsters in the first place? Fight to inform rather than to isolate

Except they aren't, and many studies reveal that women gamers are overwhelmingly players of casual mobile games, and those that do play PC games only do it for attention seeking, ie so they can stream themselves on Twitch playing games while showing cleavage so they can exploit donations from horny teenagers. If you honestly believe that someone playing Match10 or whatever on a phone while they wait for a bus is the same as something playing 1000 hours of Crusader Kings 2 are both exactly the same and both are gamers, you're beyond deluded.

Because otherwise you normalize gaming websites getting into bed with these cretins under a misguided "tolerance" that only lets these extremists in - as they becoming infested by people who orbit low quality anti-gaming individuals and websites. As an example see GOGcom staff fraternising on the Resetera forum as an example of the kind of employee that should not be acceptable to any gaming business or their consumers.

As long as GOGcom begs at the altar of anti-consumers: I won't do business with GOGcom.

Wrongly argued, I'd go with majority of women are casual. Not all women who play pc games are doing it for attention.
Hell met a lot of women in online who didn't give a crap about attention or used their gender for anything.
If anything, those women are getting bad rep because of those attention whores.

I dunno if you're buying into gg is against females propaganda, or simply misinformed. Either way there are many women who support gg as well.

Ok so first the part you ARE right about "women gamers are overwhelmingly players of casual mobile games". The rest you're absolutely wrong about but I'm guessing that's your only exposure to female gamers. If you're after something that contradicts your statement I'd recommend the youtuber LianaK.

I completely support the objective I just don't think targetting people who potentially agree with us is the way to go about it. Put these people onto your favourite youtubers that believe in transparency instead and maybe now that they are informed they can help us apply pressure against these anti consumer practices.

I do agree with your sentiment I just believe in the carrot before the stick lol
