I bought CotN (Children of the Nile) on 8/20/15, downloaded and installed without any special 'settings' or problems.
Then on 12/23/15 I got a new Win 10 PC. Reinstalled the game with no problems, directly from the setup-file I had downloaded and had on a disk. I just installed it to 'C:\Games\Children of the Nile Complete', not a special Gog-folder or anything.
I used it quite a bit in 2016 with never a problem, then left it for a while. Early 2018 I picked it up again, and started making scenarios, no problems.
My latest scenario was finished and published 12/27/18. Then started a new scenario about a week later. Worked on the map, no problem. Entered some message effect in triggers, no problem. Then started on a world level... crash.
And it kept crashing and crashing every time I tried to work on any world level whatsoever. This was on 1/16/19.
I kept trying, but nothing helped. I sent the file I was working on to a fellow user (who is on Steam), it does not crash for her.
I tried uninstalling the game, and re-installing (cleaning out any and all files), still crashing. I went on GOG and downloaded a new install file. Installed... still crashing.
I thought i must be something in my PC creating a conflict, so installed it on a laptop. That crashed too.
Now, the laptop had problems, and after closing and reopening it, it was black screen, so I couldn't be real sure about that one.
On 1/18/19 my PC crashed completely to the point of not being able to boot. Both my PC and the laptop went to the repair shop.... turns out my SSD drive was history. So now I'm thinking 'oh, good, that's the reason CotN crashed', with the laptop install still nagging me though.
Yesterday I had my PC back, good as new, new SSD and new Win 10 install. Spent a long time getting all my business- and other important software back up and running. THEN I go install CotN. Well it won't even open.
Then I installed CotN on my husbands PC, which is smaller but the exact same setup with Win 10. Installed fine, crashed as soon as I try working on a world level.
SO, what is going ON here????
I know a Microsoft software will only be installed so many times before it's all over. But isn't this supposed to be drm free games?
Did I originally have some Gog-file or other that is now gone, and the game can't live without it?
None of this makes any sense to me, but no matter what I do, it will either not start up at all, or it will crash when working on it.
Other people keep telling me to get a steam version... which, as far as I understand, will require me to be logged into steam to even work on it... I don't care for that kind of 'spying' on me.
Do I have any choice?
