Does unit design in games overall makes you happy? and how far does it have to go for you.

Last couple of years we see a wider range of games providing endless possibilities for example or are you happy with just filling slots in a set shape such as we see in the video ?

guys really, check out the vid if you haven't done so before and are a sucker for rtsy types of space battles
It depends. I like how Endless Space 2 and Stellaris does it, but I was annoyed by how Alpha Centauri did it. But for the most part I'd say I like customization options like that in a strategy game, even if its only mild (as long as its consequential). E.g. in Dawn of War where you can decide on which weapons your space marine squads should have, as well as which if any of the Predator's guns you should change to lascannons.

DW2 does look very interesting.
this reminds me of orion's grandpa , similar vids were about master of orion 3 , and we all know how much the game failed

somehow i belief codemasters will pre ... uhm prevail ?... even if this will mean it has to go through a 2 year period of extensive early access ... and gain some more weight by means of DLC

stellaris does it indeed quite well, i do feel it is a bit limited in a.i. options but there is a mod available to give that part some extra spice, its hard to explain how capitals get an extra dodge factor while their stance is to remain in one place .....

that is so, not how it should be ,,,,, every decent sf war has moving ships formations and intricate delicacies ,,,, i do hope dw 2 will give us that....

or at least manages to provide something of a more sense

btw, i forgot about star drive and its , still in development by a three man team from the industry ( really a lot of indie games go of worse if you consider manpower and experience ) , mod called black box.

the last time i could not give it a proper try since the transport ai had a malfunction which this time around seems to be fixed

lets see what that one brings to the table while Dw 2 is in development
