From what I understand, GOG Galaxy only autoupdates *installed* games and allows for a manual download of the backup game installers upon request. But what if I keep the offline game installers (and goodies too) on an external drive plugged in most of the time to the computer with GOG Galaxy running and I want not only the installed games to be automatically updated, but the files on the external drive too?

For example:

- installed game is located in D:\Games\GOG\<Name-of-the-game> and receives autoupdates.
- offline backup files are stored in F:\Installers\Games\GOG\<Name-of-the-game>, but as of now I can only manually download every file and goody by clicking at them in GOG Galaxy and point at that location to save them. This is tedious and requires a lot of manual work. (Yes, I changed Settings → Downloads → Other downloads folder to F:\Installers\Games\GOG\<Name-of-the-game> beforehand, but it doesn't work automatically, and also leaves a weird !Temp folder)

I want GOG Galaxy to be to be able to automatically sync the offline game installers to the designated location for me. Is it possible?

From what I understand, this is not currently possible, though one can check the what did just update thread in the general forums to see when/if a game gets updated somehow.

Yep, this is my impression too. Any third-party tools/scripts maybe? Or monitoring the forum is the only way?

I'm not 100% sure. I'd wait and see if others reply and see what they say. Contacting gog staff for a possible answer/reply(via clicking support tab/button above, then one of the choices, then clicking contact us at the bottom of the page that opens up) might also be an option.

Galaxy can't do that but there are third party scripts for that.

gogrepo.py is what you are looking for. You should try the latest fork by Kalanyr. Details can be found in this thread:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gogrepopy_python_script_for_regularly_backing_up_your_purchased_gog_collection_for_full_offline_e

Thank you, from the description this is indeed the solution, at least until GOG Galaxy catch up.
