I'm opening this topic because GoG's customer support does not repond to my support request since over a week now.

A while ago I had to install GoG-Galaxy to enjoy multiplayer features of a certain game but did not use it ever since. Recently though, I installed a DLC for another game and clicked on the "launch" button afterwards. Instead of the game launching an updater for GoG galaxy appeared which I immediatley closed. I then startet up the game manually and played for 2h.

When i finished my gaming session I was displeased to find GoG-Galaxy not only running for unknown reasons, but busy updating a third, unrelated game without any permission, already having downloaded over 1 GB of data. As I don't want GoG-Galaxy to make any changes to my system I cancelled the download and re-installed the affected game just to make sure. However I have no idea if any any other games were altered against my will, as the Galaxy interface seems to give no clues. Before I uninstall GoG-Galaxy i'd like to know if there is a way to reconstruct what this program might have done behind my back.

However that was not my question. I did not ask how to manage my games via Galaxy as I'm about to unistall this software once and for all. I was asking how to find out if and what changes were already made, as I'm afraid that any logfiles which possibly exist might be deleted by unistallation.

Also I have to respectfully doubt your expertise on this topic, as I have at no point imported any games to GoG-Galaxy yet the update process for at least one game was started without permission and serveral other games were at least listed in GoG-Galaxy (don't know if any changes were made to them). If I understand you correctly this shouldn't be possible.

A service or two, files in Program Files and ProgramData folder. I think there are some registry entries as well, but too long since I've last looked.
An offline installer will also register the game with Galaxy, if Galaxy is present in the system, and any game launched (unsure if only games installed after Galaxy or any game) will also run Galaxy if Galaxy is installed.

Uninstall Galaxy and any "damage" it has done to your system should be removed.

Actually, GOG Galaxy automatically updates any game that was installed using the standard installer from library downloads, and yes, it's super annoying, especially when a single icon update requires downloading a few gigs...
Galaxy does not seem to check whether an update is relevant to a specific installation or not; for example if a game gets a mac update the windows version gets re-downloaded.
1, Games installed outside Galaxy should default to manual update.
2, Update relevance should be checked
3, Updates should be finer grained - or if they are, there is something seriously wrong with the algorithm.

Thank you, this was helpful. The subfolder "Logs" does not exist in the C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy directory. Can I therefore conclude that no changes were made?

I'm not a Galaxy user so I'm not sure this is 100% correct, but...

IF you find Galaxy performed a game update that you didn't want, it might be that the only way to get the old version back - in the event you don't have the original installer and update files to recreate the version you want - is to use Galaxy's roll-back feature. So you might not yet be finished with Galaxy.

Thanks for the warning. Luckily I have all the installers I need. Just not keen on re-installing all those games if I don'T have to.

My God, what a mess..

If you have Galaxy and don't want it to mess with your mods, simply do a normal installation and don't import the game to Galaxy' "library".

Sadly, Galaxy automatically imports everything installed by GOG offline installers (if they are recent), as soon as you start it - so it does not matter at all how you install your games.
It may take a few moments until Galaxy finds everything but it does find them... and then updates them, unless you are really quick, or disable the network, and set each game installed since the last Galaxy run to manual update.
Once that's done, it's fine, but surely users shouldn't play quick draw to prevent that happening :)

This is wrong. I had to temporarily uninstall Galaxy at work and both services remained in the list. (I'm on Windows 7.)
