PookaMustard: Well, the fact that they debuted first on Humble Bundle and not DRM-free should be a blow, minor as it is. That said, my main thought is to see these ports ported DRM-free as well, which is not a hope when you consider the titles you mentioned.
For single player titles, i don't see why they wouldn't be DRM-free. Even if they would be on Steam, they can be DRM-free, as many other games. Now, most awesome would be for some of these titles to have multiplayer too. I really can't remember a fighting game like Double Dragon or Golden Axe that have Co-op option. I remember we were having a lot of fun on arcade machines playing these kind of games co-op. They would be awesome multiplayer.
So, in the case of an multiplayer implementation, i would definitely accept something like Steamworks servers and the DRM that would come with that. But i don't generally care about DRM, as it makes no difference whatsoever for me.
Anyway, i'm dreaming now. They didn't even wrote the keyboard bindings in these ports, you are still having the stick + colored buttons, like on arcades when you learn how to play. So, multiplayer would be long way ahead if it's planned to be implemented.
Weird to see something be exclusive to Humble. I wonder if that will only be temporary.

Foxhack: I was just told this was ported by DotEmu. Is this true? Is there any way I can prevent Humble from giving them a single penny? :(
What's wrong with DotEmu?

After having tried a season of being a victim of DRM, I'm in no way gonna accept it for any title that is not called Battlefield. However, if things are as you say, you were are at arcade machines playing these fighting games co-op, it should be really the same experience with these PC ports; allowing you to play local co-op and wreck havoc.

Anyways, I bought the low tier. Time to see the download sizes.

ART OF FIGHTING 2 - 36MBs
BASEBALL STARS 2 - 27.4MBs
FATAL FURY SPECIAL - 35.1MBs
THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2000 - 103.8MBs
KING OF THE MONSTERS - 28.1MBs
METAL SLUG 2 - 40.6MBs
SAMURAI SHODOWN II - 38.8MBs
SENGOKU 3 - 67.1MBs

Yeah, they're all reasonably sized. But since KoF 2000 is 100MBs, I had a change of heart. I'll try out Metal Slug 2 instead, and post my experience with it here. I'll try to play at least one level, if not then show what I can see.

Green_Hilltop: What's the point of this bundle if the games don't even offer you a way of changing the game input? C'mon, for fighter games that's a must! At least King of Monsters didn't let you when I tried it, it just shows the current layout.

catpower1980: Also, you can't apparently tweak the render settings (like the upscale mode) and I think my old Logitech pad is not Xinut so it shouldn't be compatible with those versions (although it works perfectly with MAME and other emulators)
Meh... I was glad to see DRM free Linux games on HB again but no button mapping and no image tweaking?
Why do only pirates always get the good stuff?
Huh, a bundle that actually looks interesting and consists of games I don't own. Alright, I'll bite.

Also, I'm seeing posts that say you can just copy the ROM files and run them through MAME (where you can configure the controls). Guess I'll try to figure that out later.

Yea, well, when we were 10 years old, it was fun, we were all playing them. Now, to be honest, i find it kinda odd to call my 30 year old friends to come play some 20 years old games on my PC to "wreck havoc". :)

Basically, that's their main age group with these kind of ports. 10 yr kids of today won't play these titles, but we're gonna play them, as we're nostalgic about them.

Do the games have an actual multiplayer? Because it doesn't seem like they connect to some kind of a server, at least not from the browser preview.

While many emulators do.
I'm uploading some screenshots of Metal Slug 2... though I didn't play a level as I said. Stay tuned though!

Heh, I feel ya. But to me, I just want classic games whenever I have the chance. Which is why this bundle also made up an insta-buy for me. Can't wait for the same deal with Soni- oh wait, that was done before. And it wasn't cool.

Here are some screenshots!

Smannesman: Nice bundle, it's just unfortunate that the NeoGeo catalog basically consists of fighters which are not my kind of thing.
Now an Atari Jaguar bundle, that would be interesting.
Tempest 2000
Alien vs. Predator
Iron Soldier
Rayman
Battlesphere
Defender 2000
Ultra Vortek

Couple that with a 3DO bundle and Internet will explode :o)

So you can have a glimpse of the "emulation"
Why I have a vague memory the mame emulator + rom had a better graphics? So this is the paid version, huh, at least is it possible to change the key bindings?

Niggles: Awful bundle. Humble getting desperate.
is this your only reply ever on any humble bundle? You are indeed a broken record. I wonder why you even bother read these threads.

22 games for $10. DRM free and Linux. Classic games. Awful indeed. The only reason not to pick this up is if you do not like NeoGeo - but that does not make it awful.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves is one of my top 2D fighters of all time. It had more fluid animation that just about anything else hand drawn out there. And the controls weren't near as stiff as all of the other Fatal Fury titles which seem to lack SF more forgiving nature when processing input. I've bought it every time I've had a chance to, but I'm not so sure about this one.

What is with this browser "preview" thing? How are these versions made and how does that translate into it being fed into a browser for taking a test drive? "DRM-Free" or not, I'm not interested in anything that is tied to a browser. I'm only interested if package is is self reliant.

Marioface5: What's wrong with DotEmu?
Let's see. Low quality audio sampling, stuttering, freezing, achievement bugs, improper scaling, and a refusal to fix long standing bugs in their games? Oh and all their previous NeoGeo "ports" were ANDROID TO PC PORTS. They're not even NATIVE PC PORTS.

DotEmu is one of a few companies that I would much rather not give any money to, EVER.
I might go for that Metal Slug shirt, and I'll put most of the money towards the charity. :-) But, I'm not confident in the quality of the Metal Slug ports, it might be that I'll end up just re-downloading NeoRageX and the roms, if I can't extract those from this version or from my retail copy of the PC Anthology.
