It is really great that Sleeping Dogs is now available on GOG.

However, I was wondering if there is any chance of the Yakuza games appearing on GOG anytime soon.
Sega only seems to have one published game here (if the search function is right).
It's fairly unlikely, as a lot of japanese game companies have a strange love for DRM. Never say never though. MGS and Castlevania came here too after all.
i wish. those are some of my favorites.

I have not played the Yakuza games. But they look awesome. And since I am somewhat interested in Japan and its culture I really want to play those games.

Lately been thinking of purchasing them on Steam.

Can you suggest me the order in which they should be played currently?

We were talking about Sega adding GOG as an approved vendors back in Mar 2021 here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/vague_signs_that_a_game_might_be_released_here_not_even_unofficial_confirmations/post407

Chronological - 0, K1, K2, 3-6

What's even stranger is that at least half of Sega's stuff on Steam is DRM-free (including IIRC stuff like Condemned and Alpha Protocol)

And if you're a fan of turn-based JRPGs, there's Yakuza: Like a Dragon. :)

Chances? Sure, sure.

Anything more concrete than that? Nnnnnnno.

If you want to play the waiting game, by all means do so, but you might be waiting yeeeeeeaaaaaars.

The Sega Mega Drive collection is both DRM-free and compatible with third party emulators too. It's all a little bit weird with them.

It's been a while since I played Alpha Protocol, but I think it had DRM at launch that was removed later on.

Can't comment on the digital release but the physical disc release of Alpha Protocol is DRM free.

So I checked PC Gaming Wiki, and apparently the disc version originally launched with something called Soft Anchor DRM. That's a new one to me. It was patched out in version 1.1, and I suspect later disc copies were DRM-free right out of the gate.

Chronologically yes, but IMHO for maximum enjoyment I would say 0 should be played after at least 1.

It's similar to the SW prequel I would say, if you know everything about Darth Vader then whole episode five reveal has a lot less impact.

Here it's kind of the opposite, knowing how character met and what was their relation at the beginning has more impact if you already know those characters and their current interactions.

I do have the disc version myself and never ran into an issue where it needed to do a disc check, I did look at the case again and it did have a registration key which is on me so I'll own that, but it never asked for any verification when I played it so it must have just been a one time check.
Although I cannot say with any certainty, I do know it was not long ago that the Yakuza was a Sony exclusive series. Now it's not only on Xbox but also releasing on PC.

I expect in time the series will even come to GOG, but SEGA -- like a number of Japanese publishers -- will wait until they feel they've exhausted all sales on "locked" platforms and storefronts first...

... and that could be awhile.
