DarkAkriloth: I'm using the classic installers. What I mean is that every time I finish installing a game, Galaxy detects it, boots up, downloads it's dozens upon dozens of updates that has come out since the last time I updated the client, then lets me play the game.
So after you press play using the shortcut yes? As I have not heard of it starting automatically after installing a game otherwise... but I don't use the offline installers very much anymore.
If you right click on the shortcut and select properties you should see something like this:
Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\GalaxyClient.exe" /command=runGame /gameId=1971477531 /path="D:\GOG Games\Gwent"
Start In: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy"
This tells the game to launch Galaxy before launching the game. As I said creating a new shorcut to the exe, or even modifying this one will easily bypass Galaxy. You did ask if there was a way to stop Galaxy from doing this and this is the way to do so if that is what is happening.
If it happens as soon as the game is installed before you press play (using the shortcut or even the start menu shortcut) then please let me know as that would be interesting... and I can see how that is a bit annoying.DarkAkriloth: It's mighty annoying. It may not be DRM, and it may be bypassed easily, but it sure as hell doesn't make the client feel any optional and is far less convenient than Steam.
Steam
requires you to have Steam running for the majority of the games on Steam to function. GOG does not. Galaxy does not have to run for games to function. That is what makes it more convenient. Doesn't mean they won't push you into using Galaxy if you have it installed.
DarkAkriloth: What I'm asking is if there's any way to stop Galaxy from doing this. If not, I'll just uninstall the client since I only ever used it for The Witcher games and to help beta-test it when it first came out.
Again see above. If you don't want to take advantage of what Galaxy offers then yea, uninstalling it might be the best course of action.
