HunchBluntley: If you really want to get rid of that name, just go
here, select "account username (nickname) change" from the "Problem type" dropdown, fill out the rest of the form, and submit.
(If you first want to check and see if your idea(s) for alternatives names are already taken, you can go
here, click "+ Invite new friend", and search for whatever; don't worry, it won't actually send anyone a friend invite unless you click "Invite" after a username comes up.)
What I was going to suggest :) Alternatively, you can also log out and attempt to create a new GOG account - if the chosen username is not available, you know that it's already taken.
