Hey,

so I was playing a bit of Messiah and after I died and closed the game, I had no sound whatsoever. And I mean nothing. Not one jack on my PC is working right now. I deinstalled the Game - Nothing. Tried to run the automatic troubleshoot of Win10 for this issue - Nothing. Reinstalled the drivers, restarted my PC - Nothing.

I'm getting a bit desperate now, because I have no idea what could have caused the issue. Did anyone else have a similar experience and can help me out?

Sound Controllers:

NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)
Realtek High Definition Audio

All devices should run without a problem.

Best regards!
Have you checked in your Control Panel under Sound->Manage audio devices, what device is set for playback and is it enabled ? (this is for Window 7, I have no idea for newer version)

do system restore (you can undo that too). if it works, we can blame the game. if it is still faulty, maybe the hardware just went faulty.

Hi, have you checked the game forum (gog.com/forum -> bottom left search bar, search "messi") for help or tried to contact Support?
Try doing a cold boot. Note: I don't use Windows 10, so I don't know if the same directions apply.

Open an elevated command prompt by right clicking "Command Prompt" in your start menu and choosing "Run as administrator". At the command prompt, type in "shutdown /r /f /t 0" (without the double quotes) and press enter. This should hopefully make your PC perform a full shutdown. Once it has turned off, press the power button, let it boot and see if your sound returns.

In Windows 8, Microsoft made "fast boot" the default when restarting or shutting down and powering up. This behaves like hibernation which means that the system isn't fully reinitialised when it comes back up but it will boot faster, at least on HDDs. On an SSD, you probably wouldn't notice the difference and you may want to look up how to permanently disable fast boot if you are using one.
Hmm it happened to me sometimes out of nowhere, it was either the sound output that was changed to something else than my tv speakers, or the sound volume simply at 0 % for some applications (discord...)

When you play a song or video, can you see the green bar for volume showing in the volume mixer or plain nothing?

Tried to do a Bios default reset or a look in safe mode maybe help the peripherals? just another idea.
Hey guys,

thanks for all of your ideas - Tried pretty much everything you suggested, nothing really worked. I was pretty sure that I just would have to terminate all processes and cut the power for a while, but that didn't work either. In the end, I had to reset my Computer (basicly putting your PC back to factory settings under Win10) and it worked.
So unfortunately, still have no idea what it was.
It's a pity, I loved Messiah back in the day.

Anyway - Thanks for all your help!
Hi, I have a problem and I can't solve it. In the menu, the audio is there. I hear the music. However when I start playing, there is no audio! How can I solve it? Thanks!
I'm having the same exact problem. How the hell can this one game screw up all audio on Windows? Is there a way to revert any changes the game made? System restore has no effect.. dont really want to do a reset and lose my apps.

I reinstalled the game and suddenly the sound could be heard in the game main menu. I quit the game and sound returned to Windows. What a mess.

I have the same problem. No sound anywhere after playing a game a little.

Has this been reported to tech support? It seems like a major issue that needs to be resolved.

I would say this is the first thing everybody should try!

For example, just recently Windows 10 has started switching my main audio output to my PS4 controller, whenever I plug it in. And I always have to manually change it back.

I have found the workaround. Once sound is disappear in game, press ESC, go to menu -> options-> sound and change volume level). It helps to restore sound in my case until player's death. Also I have turned off Music and set EAX/ DS3D as sound source.
