I think it's because it has more, hmm... liberal approach to point and click gameplay than you'd usually expect from a point and click game maybe; the goal seems to be more to have the player immersed in the story and the investigation at hand than to have them stuck in an elaborate puzzle; if that makes any sense? I wouldn't say it's lackluster! Depends on what you're looking for really. But yeah, if you're looking for is a challenge like in Virtuaverse for example, it seems like it's not the point of this game.
