Has a video game ever managed (intentionally or not) to scare you?

My worst was my first time playing Blood. I was on the first level and had no idea the zombie would come out of his grave until I spun around and he was in my face.
Games like Five Nights at Freddy's don't bother me, but a pixeled zombie made me jump out of my chair.

Ofc not, it's just a game i mean seriously who on earth would be afraid of pixels on screen ? that is just wrong it is.
Etrian Odyssey 3. (Dungeon gimmick spoilers)

On the deeper floors of the dungeon, there are areas where your automap will fail to work. You can still see the map and draw on it, but the map no longer shows your position or facing, and squares you visit aren't automatically painted. Furthermore, When you're in such areas, F.O.E.s (very powerful enemies who are visible outside of combat and move when you do; evading them is often a puzzle) will not appear on the map.

Anyway, one time when I was in such an area, I got lost, and there was an F.O.E. after me. (While you can't view them on the automap, you can still see them on the first person view.) Furthermore, there are hidden pits in the area. As a result, this was the first time I felt so lost and scared in a video game in quite a while.

Fortunately, I had an Ariadne Thread (item that warps you back to town), so I could get out, but what if I didn't?

i think the OP was leaning more toward jump scares.
Shit jumping out of nowhere when you don't expect it.

Sure but i can't just admit weakness here of all places but i can share this which i will certainly regret.

Playing Diablo 1 and getting to the butcher still takes the adult out of me *shrugs* pathetic.

I can show weakness! :P

The beginning of AVP, 2 I think. A pipe falls down out of the ceiling and it is deliberately made to resemble the head of an Alien. Always makes me jump.

Thanks, i have never been into AvP stuff myself but now i know i will never try that game either.

Aliens are truly horrid creatures.
While playing FarCry Primal, in the darkness of night, Wolves have thier eyes glow like 2 white dots in the darkness.

Eyes like that creep my out:

The first F.E.A.R. had some moments that creeped me out.
No, I can't recall ever having been scared by a game...it's just a game after all.
System Shock 2 was very tense though, really effective in creating a feeling of constant danger and of isolation. Good game, but I did find the experience somewhat unpleasant at times.
The haunted hotel bit in Bloodlines. Played at night before bed, no light source in room bar the screen, wearing headphones.
Walking through the Dunwich Building in Fallout 3 for the very first time was super-freaking creepy. For me, it was way more scary than the Deathclaw Sanctuary, mainly because of the unsettling atmosphere and the audio logs scattered throughout the building telling the story of the guy looking for his dad. And the basement was just..... *shivers*. As soon as I got what I needed, I NOPED right out of there!

The first Dead Space is also a very frightening experience. The tone and atmosphere of the levels were just perfect and so well designed. A masterclass in scary game design.
Lol what kind of machismo are you trying to uphold Chris? There's nothing wrong with saying you get scared by video games...

What kind ? My strong and fearless reputation ofc.

Let's be serious here though, it's mostly fooling around and light trolling if you prefer that and today games doesn't scare me but as i said i used to have massive issues going through Butcher in D1 and some of that nostalgia might linger i guess as a memory because nowadays the thought of it is much scarier than actually playing it.

As someone born in 1988 with an older brother who played a lot of Diablo and did some myself in 98 which maybe was not the best idea but it's that kind of that memory i have remembered and not as an older player.

This is how i best can describe it.
